Starting from now, Motorola smartphones will be coming with Amazon’s Alexa voice assistant.

The Mobile World Congress tradeshow came with some big news from Motorola and Amazon. Starting from now, Motorola smartphones will be coming with Amazon’s Alexa voice assistant.

AI or artificial intelligence voice assistants are becoming an increasingly more common technology. Alexa, Amazon’s AI assistant, is perhaps one of the best known. And according to a recent statement, it will also be expanding its products range.

Motorola and Amazon released a statement during the Mobile World Congress tradeshow. This took place in Barcelona, Spain. And it came with some interesting announcements.

One of them presented the future partnership between Motorola and Amazon. The mobile company will be collaborating with the giant e-commerce company. Which will, for the moment, translate as follows.

Motorola smartphones will be gaining a new function. They will start working with the Amazon Alexa. The AI assistant will reportedly start being deeply integrated into such devices. This process will start being developed later this year.

Dan Dery offered some additional details. He is the Motorola VP of global products. And according to him, users should draw the most benefits from this collaboration. In using their Motorola smartphones, they will no longer have to press any keys. Or slide their fingers to unlock the screen.

They will simply have to talk to Alexa. As their Motorola device is around, Alexa will do all the work. And according to Dery, most future Motorola smartphones will be coming with this feature.

Dery was joined in making the collaboration announcement by Jon Kirk. He is the Amazon Alexa skills and voice services director. Alexa comes with a set of pre-set commands which are called skills. These are arranged in case-specific packs, as well as on their own.

Kirk drew attention to this very fact. He pointed out that Alexa currently numbers over 10,000 ‘skills’. And even more are being developed. The skill sets are being built by third party partnerships. Ones which are enabling Amazon to expand Alexa’s functionality.

Kirk also expressed the company’s excitement in relation to the Motorola collaboration. According to him, it aligns with Amazon’s vision for Alexa. It is helping move along their latest plan for the voice service. That of increasing its area of utilization.

During the press conference, Kirk also pointed out the AI-based voice assistants’ current momentum.

Motorola smartphones will not be the only ones to benefit from a future Alexa integration. Amazon’s voice assistant is already present on a number of other devices. And Motorola is also not the only company to announce a partnership with Amazon for Alexa.

During CES, Huawei revealed a similar partnership. However, their collaboration will be somewhat more reduced. Huawei will be integrating Alexa on a number of its phones. These will target the mid-range area and will be destined for the United States market. In contrast, Motorola’s integration of Alexa seems to be more extensive.

The aforementioned Dery also presented a future mod concept for the Moto Z smartphone. The hardware-extensive device will also be coming with the Alexa voice tech integration.
