Yayy!! I love blog hops, but you know what I don’t love… US customs. Yep, they really put the poop in party pooper. You see, the goods I was supposed to share with you guys today didn’t exactly make it here all in one piece. They actually showed up in multiple pieces, all wrapped up in green tape like I let my 2 year old wrap the present, saying this package was inspected (but they really meant to say was cut open with a razor blade, drove over with our car, and given to our new puppy as a chew toy)! Luckily, the folks over at Stampendous rock and have sent me some love before so I had some goodness on hand!
There is this crazy rad fad in the scrapbooking world right now for brush script font. I shared a little taste of it in my 50 Crafty Girl Gifts post during the holidays. This awesome Canadian gal Kal Barteski paints these pieces of artwork, and is teaching a class at Studio Calico how to perfect this art form.
But you know what? When I see something I want to try, I have to do it,
Right. That. Minute.
No time to take a class, shop for supplies, or wait around for Mr. Postman to deliver the goodies (that will hopefully arrive in one piece).
Nope, I have to round up whatI have and dive in. I had no such paints on hand so I resorted to what I did have –> hoards of embossing goodies!
If you’ve never embossed before you may want to check out this embossing tutorial. But it really isn’t all that difficult. To get thicker lines I used the side of the Versa Mark pen rather than the tip. I did two coats of powder to achieve the bold lines. After the first coat was cooled down I retraced the letters with the pen and sprinkled an additional layer of embossing powder. The bottom two photos shows 1st and 2nd coat. For the “paint splatters” I just let the marker do a little dance on the paper and drew a few messy circles!
It’s kinda ridiculously easy, and I had all the supplies on hand! But now that I wanted to add these fun cards to my Project Life album I need to add a bit of fancy…
I made this May Arts Ribbon Lace paper card, and adorned it with an embossed sequin heart. I shared a quick tutorial how to make lace paper cards here.
The basic neutral color scheme looks quite sharp eh?!
Thanks for joining me today for this quick faux brush script tutorial. You can bet I’ll be trying out the real deal when I get my hands on some supplies!
