Reasons for being hated: “Rapist”, gets in the way of USUK, pedophilic/perverted moments
“Rapist” and perverted/pedophilic actions-
-Sigh.- I’m not going to address the first and most important problem with this. He’s absolutely not a rapist. If anything, he’s just very affectionate, and he is! He’s a goddamn romantic, and he’s all about love and how pure it is, and it's stated in canon that he’ll stop whatever touching or seducing or flirting he’s doing if the “victim” of his actions gives a firm no. Let me say that again.
He will stop if given a firm no. No questions asked.
On the topic of seducing and flirting, the man’s a very touchy-feely guy. He runs around naked, he makes a comment about sex nearly every other sentence, but what did you expect from the embodiment of the nation of love? Being the character he is, it’s appropriate that he’ll show interest in most other characters. He loves women, he loves men, he loves kids, he loves goddamn houses! His relationship with Joan of Arc shows how pure and romantic he can be, and as much angst and feels as that gives people, they seem to overlook it.
Gets in the way of USUK-
I’m going to say this one time. It’s unfair to judge a character by how you ship them. And even if this were the case, it wouldn’t be out of too character for him. He knows England pretty well, and he knows America’s not the brightest. Being as smart (love-wise) as he is, he’d probably be able to make something happen. But please, PLEASE don’t judge him by his cockblocking. And don’t call France a rapist. Please.
Now I’m not saying that France is a ~perfect sweet angel that must be protected at all costs~, because he’s not. He’s a pervert, and he oversteps his boundaries at times. However, he’s always punished for it, like when he was stalking Austria or trying to claim Romano. While his actions aren’t the most moral, they’re appropriate for his character and what Hetalia’s all about.
Hopefully this has helped those of you who hate this guy give him another look.
