TD Bank Group and Morgan Stanley will be recognized for leadership in promoting supplier diversity at the National Minority Business Council (NMBC) 35th Annual Awards Luncheon, February 26 at the Marriott Marquis Hotel, New York City, hosted by National Grid.

John F. Robinson, president and CEO of NMBC, “All nine of the 2015 NMBC Award recipients, from major corporations to entrepreneurs, were selected because they embody the theme of this year’s Awards Luncheon and keynote address, ‘Innovation=Business Success.’ That may seem like an obvious formula and outcome, but unless you have been part of a team that has been efficacious at identifying and sustaining innovation in your industry, it’s more difficult to achieve and sustain than most might realize.” This year’s Luncheon Chair Award is being presented to National Grid, one of the largest investor-owned energy delivery companies in the world. The award will be accepted by Keynote Speaker Raymond C. Schlaff, senior vice president and chief procurement officer for National Grid.

“At National Grid, innovation for business success is realized by developing strong sustainable partnerships with diverse suppliers and other energy industry leaders, while leveraging National Grid’s own team approach and commitment to engaging a diverse supplier base,” said Carla Hunter Ramsey, National Grid’s director of supplier diversity and Mistress of Ceremony for this year’s awards luncheon. Hunter Ramsey will also be presenting the William J. Hunter Outstanding Minority Business Award, named in honor of her late father. The elder Hunter was a charter member of NMBC, a procurement specialist for NYU Medical Center for nearly three decades and the founder of three separate companies in printing, publishing and music recording.

Recipients of the Hunter Award are two minority and women-owned businesses serving New York and New England. Noise Consulting Group, Inc. is a consulting and staffing organization specializing in business and technology in Syracuse, NY; PrintabiliTees, LLC, is a full service marketing company in Stamford, CT, providing printing and promotional products.

“National Grid has been a long-time supporter of NMBC and a founding supporter of its Executive Management Program to help business owners grow and compete in the global economy. I am honored to present the William J. Hunter Award to these two deserving recipients,” Hunter Ramsey added.

Other NMBC 2015 awardees are Vera Moore Cosmetics, Plainview, NY, Outstanding Global Business Award, and CBS Radio – 1010 WINS, Outstanding Media Award.

The Dena Coye Outstanding Woman Entrepreneurship Award is being presented to Dionisia “Diony” Cespedes, founder of Sole Strivers Financial Fitness, LLC. “Diony is a most apt recipient of the award, named in the memory of NMBC’s first associate more than 30-years ago,” said Ben Jones, chairman of the NMBC Board of Directors. “Dena was a champion of women-owned businesses and, like Diony, she was a strong ally of women entrepreneurs.” Jones is president of Lightning Supply Inc., a company he founded in 1996, providing environmentally-safe industrial and safety products and LED lighting solutions.

The Charles T. Haffey Community Service Award is being presented to the Women Presidents’ Organization, New York, a non-profit membership organization for women presidents of multimillion-dollar companies, devoted to accelerating the growth of their members’ businesses. Haffey was an Executive Volunteer with NMBC, promoting it actively within the corporate world. Under his stewardship as vice president of corporate purchasing for Pfizer Inc., Pfizer became a corporate supporter of NMBC, providing it with office space and support services at a critical time in the organization’s expansion. Pfizer also became one of the first corporations to embrace awarding contracts to minority-owned companies.
