Celebrate India’s 66th Independence Day by Listening and Getting To Know About The Top-Most Patriotic Songs.

On the 15th of August 2013, India celebrates its 66th Independence Day. Today we at Fuze give out readers some known and unknown information of Patriotic Indian songs, songs which when heard give every Indian anywhere around world goose-bumps and makes them “I am Proud To Be An Indian”

1) Jana Gana Mana – The very first song on our list is the Indian National Anthem, ‘Jana Gana Mana’; the song which is instilled in every Indian’s body, mind and soul. The National Anthem of India was originally written in Bengali, the Anthem constituted of the first five stanzas of a Brahmo hymn written by Rabindranath Tagore.It was written, composed in the year 1911. On 27th December in the year of 1911, the Anthem was first sung in the Calcutta Session of the Indian National Congress and in the year 1950 on 24th January ‘Jana Gana Mana’ was officially adopted by the Constituent Assembly as the Indian National Anthem. The poem written by Rabindranath Tagore was translated in Hindi by Abid Ali.

2) Vande Mataram – Vande Mataram, originally written in the language of Sanskrit and Bengali. The words which mean “I bow to thee, Mother”, the song pays a tribute to the motherland. The poem was coined by Bankim Chandra Chattopadhyay in the year 1882 in the novel Anandamath. A ode to mother land, it was first sung by Rabindranath Tagore in the year 1896 with regards to the then political context. The hymn had a pivotal role in inspiring India’s Independence movement. In the year 1950 the first two verses were given the status of the ‘National Song’ of the Republic of India. The National Song Vande Mataram was also sung by Lata Mangeshkar and Indian composer and musician A.R. Rahman too sung the song with different words paying tribute to the motherland ‘Maa Tujhe Salaam’. These songs too are very popular and are performed at every event whether in Colleges, Universities, TV shows (Dance, Singing) to showcase Patriotism.

3) Saare Jahaan Se Achcha – Saare Jahaan Se Achcha; the formal name which means ‘Tarana-e-Hindi’. The words of the poem instill a strong sense of patriotism in each one who hears it. It was one of the most renowned poems written in Urdu and was written in the form of a Ghazal poetry by Muhammad Iqbal. It was a ode which celebrated the motherland. The poem was first published in the year 1904 on 16th August in a weekly journal named ‘Ittehad’. It was Recited by Muhammad Iqbal in 1905 at the Government College, Lahore, which is now in Pakistan. It became an anthem of opposition to the British rule in India paying tribute to the motherland.

4) Aye Mere Watan Ke Logo – The next patriotic song, hymn on our list is ‘Aye Mere Watan Ke Logo’, a song which pays tribute to the Martyrs, brave soldiers of India. The song was written by Kavi Pradeep and composed by C. Ramchandra paying tribute to the Indian soldiers who died during the Sino-Indian War. The song was performed live by the Nightingale of India; Lata Mangeshkar on 26th January 1963 on the Republic day of India. The song was performed by Lata Jii in the presence of the then Prime Minister of India Jawaharlal Nehru at the Ramlila Maidan in New Delhi. The lyrics of the song which goes like this ‘Aye Mere Watan Ke Logo Zara Aankh Mein Bhar Lo Paani, Joh Shaheed Hue Hai Unki, Zara Yaad Karo Qurbaani. Jain Hind Ki Sena’ moved each one present at the 1963 Republic Day occasion and even today the song moves each one who hears it and makes every Indian proud of their brave-heart soldiers who put their lives on-line to protect their country.

5) Aao Bachhon Tumhen Dikhaaye – The next song in the list of Patriotic songs is the popular song ‘Aao Bachhon Tumhen Dikhaaye’ from the film ‘Jagriti’, which means Awakening. The Hindi film came out in the year 1954 and it won the Filmfare Best Movie Award in 1956. It was written by nationalist writer Kavi Pradeep. The song explained to the young children the land of India. The song whose words went like this “Aao bachcho tumhe dikhaye jhankee Hindustan ki..Iss mittee se tilak karo yeh dharati hai balidan ki Vande Mataram..” The song spoke about sacrifice and Incredible India as a whole and even today this song with the kind-off sanctity and purity attached to it has the power to move the listeners.

6) Mere Desh Ki Dharti – The next song on our list is something which goes like this ‘Mere Deshi Ki Dharti Sona Ugle, Ugle Heere-Moti, Mere Desh Ki Dharti’; a song which is praising the soil of India. The song was a part of the film ‘Upkar’ starring Manoj Kumar. The film depicted patriotism and courage. Actor Manoj kumar played the character of ‘Bharat’. The film was on the lines of the slogan ‘Jai Jawaan, Jai Kissan’. The lyrics for the song was penned-by Gulshan Bawra and the song was sung by Mahendra Kapoor. Gulshan Bawra won the Filmfare Best Lyricist Award for the song. It also had a Filmfare Nomination for Best Male Playback Singer for the song. Mahendra Kapoor won the National Film Award for Best Male Playback Singer. The film came in the year 1967.

7) Bharat Humko Jaan Se Pyaara Hai - In 1992 a film titled Roja directed by Mani Ratnam came to light, the film was dubbed in Telugu, Hindi, Marathi and Malayalam and the film was originally in Tamil. The Hindi feature film had a song depicting the love every Indian has for their country, the song focusing on the unity. ‘Bharat Humko Jaan Se Pyaara Hai, Sabase Nyaaraa Gulistaan Hamaaraa Hai’; the song sung by singer Hariharan did express the love, respect every Indian holds in their heart for India as a whole and also showcases our unity in the way that though we have different cultures, different religions, still ‘We Are One’. Unity is our strength. The lyrics of this beautiful song was written by P.K. Mishra.

8) Sandese Aate Hai – Irrespective of an Indian living anywhere round the Globe whenever they hear the song ‘Sandese Aate Hai’ are moved and either voice or with-in their own-self Salute the Indian soldiers who away from their home, families, leaving behind their troubles serve the Nation. The song showcases the life of Armed forces at the Border who wait for letters from their family to know their well-being. The song depicts the desperation of a soldier to be with their family, the duty towards the Nation calling and the belief that they will win the dangers of war. The song was a part of J. P. Dutta’s film Border. It released in 1997 and revolved around the Indo-Pakistan war 1971. The lyrics of the song was penned by the ace lyricist Javed Akhtar and the 10 minutes 19 seconds song was sung by Roop Kumar Rathod and Sonu Nigam. The song won the Star Screen Award for Best Lyrics and singer Roop Kumar Rathod was nominated in the Star Screen for the same.

9) I Love My India – The next song on the list is ‘I Love My India’ from ‘Pardes’. The movie stars the Badshaah of Bollywood Shah Rukh Khan, the Mogambo of Mr. India Amrish Puri, Mahima Chaudhry and Apurva Agnihotri. The movie was produced  and directed by Subhash Ghai and music by by Nadeem Shravan. Singers Hariharan, Kavita Krishnamurthy, Shankar Mahadevan, Aditya Narayan rendered their voice to this song which was hum-able and went like ‘Yeh Duniya Ek Dulhan Ke Maate Ki Bindiya, Yeh Mera India, Watan Mera India, I Love My India’. The song talked about the goodness of India and till date is one of the most hummed song on every occasion and on the Independence Day this song is ought to be played on music channels every year. The song came out in the year 1997.

 

10) Meri Aan Meri Shaan Meri Jaan Hindustan – The next song which deserves a mention is yet again from J. P Dutta’s Border; ‘Meri Aan, Meri Shaan, Meri Jaan, Hindustan’. The song was sung by singers Sonali Rathod and Shankar Mahadevan. The lyrics were penned by Javed Akhtar and music was given by Anu Malik. The song is patriotic and instills the feeling of patriotism in every Indian.

11) Mera Rang De Basanti Chola – In 2002 a movie produced by Kumar Taurani and Ramesh Taurani and directed by Rajkumar Santoshi hit the theatres. A film based on the freedom fighter Bhagat Singh. Legend Of Baghat Singh has actor Ajay Devgan essaying the character of Bhagat Singh, the film was a biographical. The film had the song ‘Mera Rang De Basanti Chola’ by the actors Ajay Devgan, Sushant Singh and D. Santosh essaying the characters of Bhagat Singh, Sukhdev and Rajguru in their last moments. The song was sung by Sonu Nigam and Manmohan Waris, lyrics by Sameer and music by A.R. Rahman. The song defines patriotism in-itself and gives the listeners goose-bumps whenever the song is heard.

Finally we would like to mention some more songs which are on the lines of patriotism and which instill the feeling of ‘Desh-Bhakti’ in every Indian -

a) Mera Mulk Mera Desh Mera Yeh Watan - Mera Mulk Mera Desh from Ajay Devgan’s hit film Diljale which came in the year 1996, the song was sung by Kumar Sanu, Aditya Narayan and is one of the most sung songs in music competitions at colleges, events where the theme is based on Independence Day.

b) Phir Bhi Dil Hai Hindstani – ‘Hum Logon Ko Samaj Sako Tho Samjho Dilbar Jaani..Thodi Majboori Hai Lekin Thodi Hai Manmaani…Thodi Tu Tu Main-Main Hai Aur Thodi Kheecha Taani..Hum Mein Kaafi Baatein Hain Joh Lagti Hai Deewani..Phir Bhi Dil Hai Hindustani’; is from Shah Rukh Khan’s Phir Bhi Dil Hai Hindustani produced by Dreamz Unlimited. The song was sung by Udit Narayan and the lyrics were penned by Javed Akhtar.The song depicted different individuals who at the end of the day are Indians by-heart and soul.

c) Ishq Sar-Zameen Se – In 2003 Rohit Shetty’s first directional debut Zameen had a opening song by Shaan and KK. The song was Ishq Sar-Zameen Se, the song depicted the proud feeling one feels when they say ‘I am an Indian’. The lyrics was written by Sameer and the song in the mesmerizing voice of Shaan and KK is a very beautiful composition.

d) Kandhon Se Milte Hai Kandhe & Lakshya – Kandhon Se Milthe Hai Kandhe and the title song ‘Lakshya Ko Har Haal Mein Paana Hai’ both from Amitabh Bachchan, Preity Zinta, Hrithik Roshan starrer Lakshya which released in 2004 is highly patriotic and very impact-full. Kandhon Se Milthe Hai Kande was sung by Kunal Ganjawala, Sonu Nigam, Roop Kumar Rathod, Vijay Prakash, Hariharan, Shankar Mahadevan while the title Lakshya was sung by Shankar Mahadevan. Both the songs are equally inspirational and patriotic.

e) Roobaroo Roshani – Roobaroo Roshni from Rakeysh Omprakash Mehra’s Rang De Basanti, awakens the spirit of doing something for your country and the song in-itself is self-motivating. The music for the song was given by the musical maestro A.R. Rehman and the lyrics were written by Prasoon Joshi. Singers A.R. Rehman, Naresh Iyer have sung the song.

f) Bande Mein Tha Dum – Last but surely not the least in Lage Raho Munna Bhai there was a song titled ‘Bande Mein Tha Dum’, a song dedicated and calling out to the Mahatma of India, the Father of the Nation, gave the listeners the patriotic feel. The song was sung by Sonu Nigam, Shreya Ghoshal, Panab Biswas and the lyrics were penned by Swanand Kirkire who went on to win the National Film Award for Best Lyrics in 2007 for the very same.
