Rankin, Joe McNally and Steve McCurry Confirmed As Special Guest

Birmingham NEC Saturday 1st – Tuesday 4th March 2014

14/11/13 The Photography Show is delighted to announce that Rankin, Joe McNally and Steve McCurry will be appearing on the Super Stage at The Photography Show throughout the weekend.

The Photography Show – a brand new event in the photography calendar and a must-visit destination for photography professionals, enthusiasts and retailers – will play host to three of the most celebrated photographers of the modern age, with each discussing their careers.

Synonymous with compelling portraiture, Rankin made his name in publishing, co-founding the seminal monthly magazine Dazed & Confused in 1992. He has created landmark editorial and advertising campaigns for some of the most celebrated publications, brands and pioneering charities across the globe.

His portrait work has seen him shoot some of the most iconic people in the world including the Queen, David Bowie, Michael Jackson, Madonna, Tony Blair, Kate Moss and The Rolling Stones, to name but a few.

Rankin says, “I’m delighted to be taking part in such a vital event for professional and amateur photography. I will be discussing my career live and in depth but what I am most looking forward to is offering advice and tips in a public Q&A session.”

Rankin will be interviewed live on Saturday 1st and Sunday 2nd March. Enthusiasts will also have the unique chance to put questions to the man himself.

Joe McNally is an internationally acclaimed photographer whose career has spanned 30 years and included assignments in over 50 countries. He has shot cover stories for TIME, Newsweek, Fortune, New York, Entertainment Weekly, Sports Illustrated, Life, The New York Times Sunday Magazine, Men’s Journal, and is an ongoing 23-year contributor to the National Geographic.

Joe has received a number of honours through his career that include being listed by American Photo as one of the 100 Most Important people in Photography, and was described by the magazine as “perhaps the most versatile photojournalist working today”. He has been honored as a member of Kodak-PDN Legends Online, as well as being a Nikon Legend Behind the Lens. In 2010, he was voted as one of the 30 most influential photographers of the decade in an industry-wide Photo District News survey. McNally won the first Alfred Eisenstaedt Award for Journalist Impact for a LIFE coverage titled ‘The Panorama of War’. He has also been honored numerous times by Communication Arts, PDN, Graphis, American Photo, POY, and The Word Press Photo Foundation.

Joe McNally says, “I’m really honoured and thrilled to be part of The Photography Show in Birmingham. It promises to be a wonderful gathering of a wide range of the talents and skills of the photo community in the UK and from all over. Shows, demos, exhibits… I’m looking forward to March in Birmingham! Many thanks to Manfrotto and The Photography Show for the invite!”

Joe will present on location and light and his career on Sunday 2nd, Monday 3rd and Tuesday 4th March.

Steve McCurry, a prestigious Magnum Photographer, has been a one of the most iconic voices in contemporary photography for more than 30 years, with scores of magazine and book covers, over a dozen books, and countless exhibitions around the world to his name.

From humble roots of a freelance photographer for a local newspaper, McCurry risked his life putting a human face to the Russian Invasion of Afghanistan in 1979/80. Since then, he has gone on to create stunning images over six continents and countless countries. His work spans conflicts, vanishing cultures, ancient traditions and contemporary culture alike – yet always retains the human element that made his celebrated photo of the Afghan Girl such a powerful image.

McCurry has been recognised with some of the most prestigious awards in the industry, including the Robert Capa Gold Medal, National Press Photographers Award, and an unprecedented four first prize awards from the World Press Photo contest, to name a few.

Steve will present the stories behind his photos in morning and afternoon sessions on Monday 3rd March.
