When Beth contacted us to home pet sit her trio of Huskies, we jumped at the chance! Well, actually Lyric did most of the jumping. Here’s how we came to care for these heavenly huskies over the holidays this year.

Our first meet and greet took place here at Furever Home Pet Care in Niagara Falls. We specifically asked Beth to visit because we wanted to “husky-test” the yard fencing. We’ve had larger medium sized dogs come and stay no problem, but we all know that the husky dog breed are known for being escape artists, climbers and high jumpers.  Plus one of Beth’s current huskies is a foster dog whom she has known for a shorter time. Always best to test the new setting.

Sure enough, Lyric the curious one wanted to come see what we were doing as we introduced her brother Rusty to our resident dogs. What, a mere gate? No problem, up and over she went! So, good to know – our front gate is NOT husky proof for a determined dog!

So we arranged to care for these gorgeous dogs at Beth’s own home, a pet sitting arrangement that would see them comfortable and cared for in the setting we know is safe and secure.  We took the time to visit Beth’s home before the actual date as well, just so we knew the lay of the land, and puppies had another chance to say hi.

When the date came, we were laughing! Smooth as can be, and the dogs were perfectly happy to show me exactly where all the treats are, where they like to chew their great big bones, and all the crazy husky things they can do with a stuffy toy (which turns out is mostly throwing it over their own heads then ripping it to shreds – d’oh!)

Huskies at Home

We spent a little more time taking photos of Aladia, “Al” for short, because he is the foster dog in the house. Beth rescued him from Toronto Humane Society where he had languished far too long. He was (mistakenly) assessed as being too aggressive. Besides being a little camera shy at first, can’t say that I agree with them on that at all.

Mind you, he has had the benefit of wonderful care, behavioural guidance, good husky siblings and a great diet since coming into Beth’s home, so its not all that surprising that he is a big creampuff.

“Big” as in “as big as me” big, and “creampuff” as in the fact that his coat is as think as a polar bears, plus he wants little more than your company. Once he’s met you, he’ll lean right in and ask for the pets, or even roll over and give up the big fully belly for serious rubs.

Many thanks to Beth for allowing for some quality time with the big guys. It was amazing to watch some of the same doggie body language, habits and characteristics of my wee ones writ large on these three heavenly Huskies!
