If you read my post about How To Create An Amazing Gnome Village, you already know that was just the beginning for me! While I was searching online for gnome “accessories” (who knew there was even such a thing), I discovered the magical world of fairy gardens. At that point, I wasn’t even planning on creating a fairy garden but everything was just so cute that I couldn’t help myself! I HAD to have a fairy garden…for my daughter of course! This definitely falls along the lines of 9 Awesome Things You Get Away With When You Have Kids because while I knew my daughter would like it, I have to admit that it was kind of for me too (just don’t tell her that).

We started by picking out the fairies that
I wanted
we wanted. We looked at a lot of pretty ones but decided on the collection of Cicely Mary Barker Flower Fairies. We just LOVED them from the start and probably would have bought the entire collection if money were no object. Ashling decided right away that she had to have the “baby fairy” because it reminded her of little Keira (who was still a baby at the time). These are the selections we made:

Baker’s Village Garden Center carries a large selection of the Cicely Mary Barker Garden Fairies so you can pick your own favorites.
Once we picked our favorite fairies, the next step was to buy some fairy furniture and accessories (even fairies have to have someplace to sit back and watch the latest Tinkerbell movie). Here’s how it turned out…
We found just the perfect spot under the trees by the playground. That way the girls could admire the fairies every time they went to play!
I planted a little greenery but most of the plants were just silk flowers from Michaels. I was going to replace them with real flowers but they held up surprisingly well and kept their color so I decided to keep them. It’s funny that the things I thought wouldn’t last were the ones that held up the best. Some of the things I thought would easily withstand the elements didn’t fare as well. The “Joy” rock in the lower right corner completely fell apart and the wood piece that I used for the patio became moldy after awhile.
I loved this little gate that I found online and decorated it with more fake flowers. The fence was always falling over so next time I’ll find some good outdoor glue and stick little toothpicks (painted white) at the base so that it will stay in the ground better. I’m learning as I go!
My daughter loved the baby Sweet Pea fairy but these two were my favorites! I made the flowerpots myself (I wasn’t blogging back then or I would have made an easy tutorial). I bought some tiny flowerpots, mixed some stones together with outdoor Modge Podge and “planted” more of the silk flowers. These also withstood the elements very well and I’m planning to use them in my next fairy garden.
This river was another one of my creations and also surprisingly easy. I took some the pebbles, mixed them with a generous amount of modge podge (for outdoors) and laid them out on a piece of wax paper to create the outline. After about two days, I took the blue glass material, mixed that with modge podge and filled in the river. I made sure to push the mixture against the rocks so that it would all stick together. Once that was completely dry, I turned it over and painted the entire back of the river with more modge podge (maybe modge podge should be sponsoring this post).
Our little baby fairy (lovingly named Keira) enjoyed hanging out by the river. Sorry for the poor photography…again, two years ago I had no idea I’d be posting these on a blog or I would have taken much better pictures.
This fairy was thankful that she had a nice place to relax!
I loved this little patio set and I made more flowerpots to go around it. Again, this wood didn’t hold up so next time I’ll use some kind of flat stone. I might just splurge and get this cute little miniature patio from Bakers Village.
While the life of this rock was short lived, it sure was pretty while it lasted!
One last picture from a different angle. We had SOOO much fun creating this fairy garden and now that we’ve moved into a new house, I can’t wait to create another one that’s even bigger and better! Since I live in Florida now, my fairies will definitely want to hang out on the beach…how cute are these mini beach scenes, also from Bakers Village? The fairies are going to LOVE us!!!
