2.

Tell us about your blog and why you started it.

a.

Originally I started my blog to promote my
products on Teachers pay Teachers, but then I quickly realized that I just
enjoy sharing my ideas with everyone else!
It is a great way to spark conversation about best practices in the
classroom.  I absolutely love it!  I’ve had my blog for less than a month, so I
have quite a bit of work to do in order to catch up with the other amazing
bloggers—but I
realize that takes time and patience! J  You’ll find LOTS of pictures and DIY projects
on my blog.

3.

Tell us a
little about your teaching background.

a.

I moved to Bowling Green, Ohio from Texas in
order to start my education at BGSU a little over 4 years ago.  This past May I graduated and I was lucky
enough to have a teaching job in Perrysburg, Ohio before I even graduated (such
a wonderful feeling)!  This is my first
year teaching 11th grade American Literature and I have learned very
quickly that I chose the right profession for me.  Although I’ve only been teaching for a year,
I’ve known my entire life that I wanted to be a teacher.  Ask my mom—she has
plenty of videos where I am “teaching” my stuffed animals!

4.

What songs are
included on the soundtrack to your life?

a.

“This Girl is on Fire” by Alicia Keys! I chose this song
because the lyrics describe my life!  “She’s
got both feet on the ground—she’s not backing
down”… I’m totally singing it right now! LOL.

b.

“Survivor” by Destiny’s Child! “I’m a survivor—I’m not going to give up!” I’ve already been
through quite a few interesting events in my life and I refuse to stop thinking
positively! J

5.

What’s the hardest thing you’ve ever done?

a.

The hardest thing that I have experienced in life so far is
probably my move from Texas to Ohio.  I
packed up everything in a matter of 2 weeks and moved to a city where I didn’t
know anybody.  Although it was the
hardest thing I’ve experienced—it was also the
best decision I’ve ever made in my life.
I encourage my juniors to move far away from where they grew up and
start over if they are unhappy with their life.
I did and look at me now—this girl is on
FIRE! J

6.

What’s your favorite TV show?

a.

That’s tough!
Either Four Weddings or Say Yes to the Dress!  I love seeing how happy the bride and groom
are “in the moment”!  I am not married
(yet), but I can assure you that mine will be pretty fantastic after watching a
billion episodes of both of these shows!
It’s kind of embarrassing!

7.

Are you a Times New Roman or DJ Inkers kind of
girl/guy and why?

a.

DJ Inkers girl all the way!  Unfortunately, MLA requires Times New Roman
(size 12) font, so my students don’t usually get to see my love for cutesy
fonts!  I love scrapbooking and crafting,
so DJ Inkers is right up my alley!  I use
different fonts in all of my products because I can’t stand looking at the same
font over and over again, so why would my students?!

8.

Number of candles that appeared on your last
birthday cake?

a.

22! J I’m
closer in age with my students (16-17) than I am to my colleagues! Yikes!

9.

What was the last book you read?

a.

The Great Gatsby with my
students… But for
my own personal enjoyment…Room by Emma
Donoghue – FANTASTIC!!! I would encourage everyone to
read it!  My friends and family always
make fun of me because I tend to lead towards morbid books… but
they are SO good and entertaining!  If
you haven’t heard of it, definitely look it up!
I won’t give away any of the details here. J

10.

What chore do you absolutely hate doing?

a.

Dishes, dishes, dishes.  I told my boyfriend that I will do ALL of the
chores as long as I do not have to do the dishes.  Something about leftover ketchup just totally
freaks me out! EK! Just thinking about having to do dishes is upsetting me! LOL
However, I find doing laundry to be extremely relaxing (I know, I know, I’m
weird).

Name of
blog and link:  First Grade Critter Café

2.

Tell us about your blog and why you started it.  I started my teaching blog in July 2012 in
hopes to meet new teachers who were as passionate about teaching as I am!

The
First Grade Critter Café is actually named after a Reading Café’ we created in our
first grade classroom.  Inspired by the
Sisters’ CAFÉ, we are using it the first grade way!  Blogging not only helps me meet and follow
new teachers, but also helps me record and journal how my year is going, what
worked, and what needs to change on a consistent basis.  A virtual teacher diary of sorts!  I love sharing new ideas, and opening up my
classroom to other teachers!  I love the
comments and feedback the most.  It
really adds to the sweetness of being a teacher blogger! J

3.

Tell us a
little about your teaching background.

This
is my 11th year teaching first grade and I still wake up every
morning excited to come to school and teach my little firsties!  I have a Master’s Degree in Curriculum and
Instruction and think of myself as a mold of many great teachers out there in
the world of education.  If I had to name
a few of my teacher idols they would be: Pat Cunningham, Tim Rasinski, Ginny
Dowd, Fountas & Pinnell, The Sisters (Gail and Joan), Lori O., and  Peter Johnston.  My biggest cheerleader and role model that I
strive to still make proud is Carol Molnar, my teaching mentor.  She opened her heart and teaching world up to
me when I started and that has given me the wings to fly and explore so many
new opportunities as a teacher!

4.

What songs are included on
the soundtrack to your life?

I
can play expert on 7 Rock Band songs, does that count? J  I grew up
with R & B, then found my country girl side in high school.  I love the Toledo Symphony Orchestra and Frank
Sinatra too!  I adore Martha and The
Vendella’s and some good ole fashioned Def Leppard!  I’m definitely what you would call a “50
Shades” kinda gal when it comes to music!

5.

What’s
the hardest thing you’ve ever done?

Letting
go of a loved one.  I was engaged at the
young age of 18 when my fiancé was killed in an automobile accident.  It took most of my growing up and adult life
to realize that holding on to someone so tight, even though they were gone, was
keeping me from looking ahead.  I finally
realized he wouldn’t be mad for letting go.
He loved me that much.

6.

What’s your favorite TV show?

1980’s—Dukes of
Hazzard.  1990’s---Beverly Hills 90210.  2000’s---
Dallas reruns and  14 seasons of boxed
sets!  2013---Vampire Diaries & The
Neighbors!

7.

Are you a Times New Roman or DJ Inkers kind of
girl/guy and why?

I
am the, “How many fonts can my old Dell computer download before collapsing
entirely!”  My favorites: CHERI and Lego
House

8.

Number of candles that appeared on your last
birthday cake?

I
am a very proud 37 years young…. Don’t feel a day over 31!

9.

What was the last book you read?

50
Shades of GREY! Yes I said it.  Bought
the collector’s edition boxed set last spring.
Still working on book 3!  Also just
finished Peter Johnston’s “Opening Minds” which was a beautiful companion
sequel to his first book “Choice Words.”
Two Thumbs up and a must-read for any teacher!

10.

What chore do you absolutely hate doing?

May
I please list more than one?  At home, I
despise cleaning the bathroom and dusting.
My genie maid always gets lost and can’t seem to find her way to my
house!  At school, I throw tantrums most
nights when I have to grade weekly addition and subtraction timed tests.  I am working on getting a parent helper for
that duty!  YAY!
