It must be a case of "summer brain"!  I totally forgot what day it was and didn't get my post up yesterday!  My apologies to Molly and Deirdre!!!  Every Tuesday, I feature new bloggers- giving you a chance to find new friends and a chance for these bloggers to get their names out there.  If you would like to be featured, email me at dml8609@gmail.com.

Tell us about your blog and why you started it. I have been a blog stalker for close to a million years now (or about 5 if you’d like to be technical). Within those 5 years I have also had 3 children so having the time to jump in and blog has been really difficult. I’ve always wanted to join the club though. The blog world always seemed like a little secret society to me and I am excited to be a new member. Blog stalking has been the best professional development I have every received. There are some AMAZING teachers out there! I look forward to sharing my perspective on teaching and the fun things we do in my neck of the woods!

Tell us a little about your teaching background. I started out not as a school teacher, but as a dance teacher!  A little different than phonics and math facts, but many of the behavior management skills I learned teaching dance are what I use in my grade one classroom today. Teaching dance to all ages from 3-18 made me realize I love the little little ones and the big big ones. All those kiddos in the middle are meant for someone with gifts beyond me. So I went and got my Masters in Early Education, did a bit of subbing to start and for the past 6 years have been having a grand old time in my grade 1 classroom.  We work really hard and do a lot of singing and dancing along the way- I stick to my roots!

4.
What songs are included on the soundtrack to your life? #1 song on my soundtrack is Total Eclipse of the Heart. I love that song so much. I’ve loved it ever since middle school playing it over and over on my walkman. The rest of my music taste is pretty eclectic. I love Broadway, folk music, classic rock, oldies, Irish music and more.

5.
What’s the hardest thing you’ve ever done? I feel I’ve been so blessed in my life. My husband and I still have our parents. They are healthy, we are healthy, our kids our healthy! I don’t think my hardest has happened yet, but I am thankful for this blessed time I am having.

6.
What’s your favorite TV show? I can’t pick just one! Buckle up- Shameless, Homeland, Downton Abbey, Parenthood, Modern Family, Smash, The Following, Grey’s Anatomy (although I am ready for it to end), The Office, Boardwalk Empire, Nurse Jackie…whew! I watch a lot- Yikes!

7.
What is your favorite item of clothing and why? Elastic waist pants! I love coming home and taking my school clothes off and putting comfy pants on. It is such a great feeling. I also like to add a scarf and earring to my work clothes because it makes me feel less thrown together.

8.
Number of candles that appeared on your last birthday cake? 33

9.
What was the last book you read? What are you going to read next? Did you see all the tv I’m watching? When can I read? I haven’t been great about books in a while. But, I read a bunch of children’s books at home and at school each day. I also did read The Daily 5 and CAFÉ this fall. Next up?? Something light and fluffy by the water hopefully.

10.
What was the last thing that you ate that you really shouldn’t of? I recently had a cold and had no taste. I still ate about 6 cookies. Why? I don’t know!

This is a fun freebie in my TPT store. It’s an addition & subtraction song to remember some of the tricky math vocabulary.

Tell us about your blog and why you started it.

Like many other bloggers, I stalked read other teacher blogs for a very long time! As I was following all of these wonderful blogs, I had the thought many times, “wait, I would love to share ______that I do with others” or “I can make _____ to share!”  So, when I was bored over Ski Week this past February, I decided to start Lucky to Be in First on a whim!  I knew if I thought too long about it, I wouldn’t do it.

3.
Tell us a little about your teaching background.

I’ve been teaching first grade for 10 years.  My favorite thing to teach is Reading.  I think it’s magical to watch a child grow into a reader (and know that I had a big part of that transformation!)

4.
What songs are included on the soundtrack to your life?

Whoomp there it is – because you just can’t not dance to that song & I LOVE to dance!  And Brown Eyed Girl – no explanation needed!

5.
What’s the hardest thing you’ve ever done?

Hmmm…that’s a good one.  I guess it was realizing that my plan wasn’t the same as God’s plan.  Fortunately, he had a better one and I’m so grateful everyday I went with his!

6.
What’s your favorite TV show?

I LOVE The League.  It’s basically Sex and the City for men.  I’m still a big fan of Friends reruns {have you heard the rumor that they’re coming back!?!}

7.
What is your favorite item of clothing and why?

Hands down my favorite piece of clothing is my denim jacket.  It seriously goes with everything – dresses, colored denim, pajamas!

8.
Number of candles that appeared on your last birthday cake?

32!

9.
What was the last book you read? What are you going to read next?

I hate to admit this, but before I started blogging, I would read ALL THE TIME {as in while sitting at stoplights, while the kids are doing silent reading, etc.} Now, my  “free” time goes to reading blogs!

However, I’m in the middle of Maeve Binchy’s latest A Week in Winter.  Not sure what I’ll read next, but I’m always looking for good suggestions of what to read next.  I’m looking forward to the summer when I can sit on the beach and catch up!

10.
What was the last thing that you ate that you really shouldn’t of?

Those killer chocolate muffins from Costco.  I’ll be at the gym the next three days burning that deliciousness off!
