2014 Schedule

12 noon – Dragon dance and Presentation about the Marysville Dragon

Corey Chan of Kei Lun Martial Arts will share images and talk about the restoration he and colleagues Ben Huey and Jeff Lee performed on an historic antique dragon from March through August 2014. This priceless treasure belongs to the Chinese Community of Marysville, California and has resided at the Bok Kai Temple—itself a living monument to the history of Chinese-Americans in this country. How did these artists complete a project in a way that would please the dragon’s owners and the Museum that commissioned the restoration while remaining true to their own artistic integrity and the original creator’s vision? (The Marysville Dragon is currently on view at the New York Historical Society Museum as part of their new exhibit “Chinese American: Exclusion/Inclusion” through April 2015.)

1:30 pm – Live music by Francis Wong & friends, plus Birthday cake-cutting

2:30 pm – Film screening: Uncommon Courage: Breakout at Chosin about Major Kurt Chew-Een Lee

But his greatest victory may have been changing the way this country regards Asian Americans. Meet Lt. Chew-Een Lee, whose patriotism and bravery ushered in a new era in the Marines…and in America.San Francisco Supervisor Eric Mar, whose uncle is Major Kurt Lee, will be joining them prior to the film screening. They will also be joined by Roger Dong of American Legion Cathay Post 384, a U.S. Veterans organization based in San Francisco.
