For the first time, Eakins Oval, eight acres of public space at the base of the Benjamin Franklin Parkway, will be transformed into Philly’s new “Park on the Parkway.” On Wednesday, July 17th what is being called The Oval will have it’s official Opening Day. Here’s what you should know about Philly’s newest attraction.

When should you go to The Oval?
The Oval will be open from July 17 through August 18, 2013, Tuesday through Sunday, from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m.
Each day at The Oval will have a different programming theme:
Tuesdays, Wellness
Wednesdays, Arts & Culture
Thursdays, Environment
Fridays, Food & Flicks
Saturdays, Live Music Series
Sundays, Family Fun Day
Never been to The Oval?
The Oval is located on the Benjamin Franklin Parkway, Philly’s “Avenue des Champs-Élysées.” It is near a few of the most popular tourist destinations in Philadelphia, including The Philadelphia Museum of Art, Rocky statue, The Barnes Foundation, The Franklin Institute, Academy of Natural Sciences, Free Library and Rodin Museum.
How can you get to The Oval?
The most convenient ways to get to The Oval are to walk, bike (bike racks on site), or take public transportation via SEPTA bus routes 2, 7, 32, 33, 48; regional rail at Suburban Station; City Hall stop on Market-Frankford and Broad Street subway lines and PHLASH (May-October). If you decide to drive, metered parking kiosks are available along the outside lanes of the Ben Franklin Parkway between The Oval and Logan Square.
