Some of you know and some of you don’t that my girls are adopted from foster care. So when we think of working with a charity we often think of donating to a local foster care support organization called Straight from the Heart. So when Spinbrush wanted us to help spread the news about the Spin Into Action SIMPLE Service project we knew which organization we wanted to support!
Although there are many loving families who care for children in the foster care system it is still a hard road for these kids. As people we were designed to have consistent, loving care and unfortunately for many kids that is simply not a reality. It’s sad, but true. So helping support the kind people who are willing to take foster kids into their homes and care for them for however long they need to is really important.
This is why Champion For Kids is asking that you collect toys and children’s items such as books, games, blankets, and toothbrushes (like Spinbrush Tooth Tunes) to donate to a local children’s’ hospital, shelter, or foster care facility. Then tell them how many people were involved and how many items you collected, and Spinbrush® will match up to 1,000 Tooth Tunes™ toothbrushes ( in total) to help kids in need.
Our family, including my mom and the girls spun in to action and headed to our local Walmart (see the whole shop here on Google+) and shopped for coloring books, chalk, bubbles and Spinbrushes. We picked up 7 Spinbrushes and a bunch of other fun stuff that you can see below.
Since the girls have a trauma background, difficulty with excitement and some sensory issues we decided just to make this a family affair and pack up all the goodies. Mom, Miss O and I (Miss L had a prior engagement) headed off to Straight for the Heart to drop off the goodies. Miss O very sweetly asked if she could take money out of her piggy bank to donate to the kids, too.. of course I said yes!
She was very glad to present her goods donation and her money, which they happily accepted. It’s not much, but you have to realized that every little bit helps and if we all do our part it adds up to a lot!!
