Hi Frugalistas!
Having just arrived home from 4 fabulous days in Instanbul (more to come), I’m going Turkish for the Friday Files this week. I had the most amazing time in Instanbul, and I’m now just a little bit obsessed with Turkey and all things Turkish. There are some fabulous images in each of these posts – definitely well worth checking out!
First off, I’m exploring cruising on a gulet, courtesy of Megan at megantasker.com. I had the pleasure to meet Megan, and hear about some her gulet adventures while I was in Instanbul, so I was delighted to find this post on her blog when I was checking it out.

Turkey is full of ancient ruins, so many ruins it’s pretty easy to think that any old stone in Turkey could potentially have been from the Byzantine era. I don’t care so much for ruins, it’s true, I enjoy a good amphitheatre from time to time, but ruins… meh, I can take ‘em or leave ‘em, and if it’s really hot out I’m definitely inclined to leave them. But of course, if you put me on a boat along the Mediterranean and the ruins under crystal blue water, it’s not too hard for me to join the ranks of ruin lovers….Read on here
My second post this week comes from Jenny of A Taste of Travel. I’ve known Jenny for a while, and it was also great to catch up her and her husband, Ian, in Istanbul. Jenny’s post is her entry in the capture the colour competition – using her beautiful images of food from her extensive travels in Turkey. It’s thoroughly delectable!
Last year I chose photos from different countries I had been to but this year I thought it would be fun to choose photos that I have taken recently as we travelled through Turkey.
When I was first nominated by Farrah, it was mentioned that I spend a lot of time in markets…too true! Exploring markets and local food is for me, an important part of travelling, so I have decided to choose photos from my last 6 weeks in Turkey and guess what..these photos are all about food! My final choice this week is the balloons in Cappadocia courtesy of Jenn at A Lady Away. Images of the balloons over Cappadocia are familiar to most travellers, but Jenn has managed to capture some beautiful and unique images. I hope you enjoy them as much as I did!

Only a few hours after I arrived in the area I was given a grand introduction to the unique landscape of Cappadocia, Turkey – from a hot air balloon!
