Summer's coming and that means lots of summer fun around Canyon Lake just for kids.

One of the Association's newest committees, the Youth Action Committee, is collaborating with local clubs and groups to provide more camps, education programs, sports, and more for kids in Canyon Lake.

Here is a list of what's going on this summer and how you can get your child involved:

Classes and Camps

Swim Lessons – The pool will offer seven sessions of swim lessons, two sessions of Mommy and Me, three sessions of water polo and two junior lifeguard classes.

Swim lessons are 30 minutes long and are held twice a day Monday through Friday from 10:15 to 10:45 a.m. or 11 to 11:30 a.m. Weekly lessons will be offered from June 9 to 13, June 16 to 20, June 23 to 27, July 7 to 11, July 14 to 18, July 21 to 25 and at 1 p.m. from July 28 to August 1 (lower levels only). Note, that lessons will not be offered the week of June 30 to July 4.

Swim lessons are $70 for the first week for one child. There is a $40 discount offered for the second week or a second child. When second child/or second week(s) are purchased, the third week is free - one week per household.

Tennis Lessons – The Canyon Lake Tennis Club is hosting summer tennis lessons for kids ages 4-18 taught by Tennis Pro Baba Soysa.

Lessons will start June 10 and lessons are twice a week on Tuesday and Thursday mornings for one hour. Kids will meet at the tennis courts.

There will also be Mommy/Daddy and Me lessons for children ages 4-5. For more information and sign-ups please contact Marga Kidd at mikesmarga@verizon.net or 951-442-4538.

Learn To Ski Days – The Ski Club is offering the Learn To Ski Days this summer on Wednesday, June 11, Wednesday, July 9 and Wednesday, August 13. Pre-registration is necessary as space is limited. Signups can be for 1, 2 or 3 p.m. Slots fill up quickly, so call Terry Pierce at 951-609-4790 for available times. There is a $10 entry fee and skiers need to be members of USA Water Ski for the day, which can be handled on site at the North Ski Area.

Learn To Ride Days – The Wakeboard Club will host Learn to Ride Days this summer on June 14, July 19 and August 9, in the back part of the North Ski Area. Signups begin at 8 a.m. at the Ski Pavilion. All ages are invited to learn how to wakeboard or to improve their skills. The cost is $10. Gear is available at no charge if needed.

Junior Golf Clinic – The Canyon Lake Junior Golf Clinics will be July 14 through July 18. The clinic is being conducted by the Golf Pro Shop staff. The fee per junior golfer is $35, this will include instruction, skills test, prizes and a family barbecue.

Horse Camp – Kids can enjoy a fun summer learning adventure with horses and meet fellow equestrian-loving friends. The first session of this camp will be held Monday through Thursday, June 23 to 26, from 5 to 8 p.m. The second session will be held Monday through Thursday, August 4 to August 7, from 5 to 8 p.m. The cost of each camp is $250, including the deposit of $50.

Water Polo Clinics – Clinics will be June 23 to 27, July 7 to 11 and July 14 to 18 at the pool. The cost is $45. The clinic meets Monday through Friday, 11:45 a.m. to 12:45 p.m.

Vacation Bible School – This lively program is offered for one week in the summer. Participants can expect inspiring Bible stories, lots of games, delicious snacks and fun crafts. Music Drama Day Camp – In one high-energy week, campers will learn some basic acting, singing and dancing skills, participate in team competitions, Bible lessons, craft projects and tons of fun! The week culminates with a public performance of a full-length musical drama. Look for more information and confirmed dates in the spring. (Ages: Kindergarten - 6th Grade). Upcoming Events

Taco Tuesdays – Summer is just around the corner, and with summer fun comes Taco Tuesday started this past Tuesday, June 3 and will run weekly through August 26 at the Lodge. Hours are 5 to 8:30 p.m.

Taco Tuesdays are one of Canyon Lake's many fun and family friendly summer events. Each week features entertainment, vendor booths, kid's zone, new menu items, drink specials and much more.

Summer Family Movie Nights – Bring the family to Holiday Harbor Park every other Friday night starting June 13, 2014 for the Association's Summer Family Movie Nights in the park. Visit www.canyonlakepoa.com to see the movie schedule for summer family movies in the park. Note there will be no movie on Friday, July 25 due to the Children's Theatre production 'The Nifty Fifties'.

Fourth of July Fireworks – Each year the Association puts on a spectacular Fourth of July Fireworks Show that is launched from Skipper's Island. This is one of Canyon Lake's busiest holidays of the year and the show is sure to impress everyone in the family.

The Nifty Fifties – Canyon Lake Community Theatre will present it's summer kids show, 'The Nifty Fifties'. There will be four shows at the Lodge on July 25, 26 and 27. For more information contact Sue Collins 951-246-2773.

Summer Splash – Canyon Lake Junior Women’s Club is sponsoring this fun water themed event just for the kids on August 2. There will be giant inflatable water slides, carnival style games, face painting, a craft table, etc. for the kids, along with food and entertainment. Vendor booths provide shopping opportunities for the adults while food and drinks are sold from the snack bar.

Kid's Fishing Derby – The Canyon Lake Bassmasters are hosting the 27th annual Kids Fishing Derby for Canyon Lake residents and their guests, ages 5 to 15 on August 16. Fishing guidelines can be found with the registration form that will be printed in the Friday Flyer closer to the event.

Paddle Regatta – Paddlers and pedalers will gather for the 3rd Annual Paddle & Pedal Regatta, hosted by the Fitness & Triathlon Club on August 23. This event begins at 10 a.m. at Indian Beach. Everyone with a paddle board, kayak, canoe or pedal boat is invited to join the non-motorized cruise of the East Bay. Following the event will be a club-sponsored burger barbecue, which will be available to those who donate $5 per person.
