Tumblr Changes: Reblog Nightmare Problem

I agree with everyone else here on Tumblr. staff, please get rid of this update/change. I’ve looked at some of the reblogs with comments on this post and I have yet to see anyone who likes this change.

Tumblr staff, you said in this post that you do listen to your members/users:

… every word of your feedback is read lovingly by human eyes, then passed along to our engineers…

So,  please hear us out. This is not an improvement. This is a nightmare, a mess. It really messed up a lot of reblogged posts.

A lot of people don’t like this change and a lot of the reblogs with comments on this post have expressed their dislike/hatred for this change and many have asked for this change to be reverted. Please hear us out and listen to us. I hope you take into consideration everyone’s opinions, feedback and concerns. Thank you.

Others have said why they don’t like this change. I don’t like this change either and, honestly, I also didn’t like the previous reblog change wherein we were no longer allowed to edit the reblogged text content. That was yet another nightmare and I discuss why in this post. IIRC, plenty of other people didn’t like that change as well and that can be seen in the various reblogs (that contain comments) of the Tumblr staff’s post.

In this post, I’ll focus on some of the reasons (in no particular order) to dislike/hate this new reblog change.

Unable to move the reblogged content

The reblogged content is stuck on top of the page while any additional content you add to the post will be located at the bottom, at the end of the reblogged content. You can’t move any of this so that your own content will be on top of the page unless you decide to remove all the reblogs. I don’t like this because, well, it’s my blog, isn’t it? Shouldn’t my content be on top? Why can’t we at least put the reblogged content at the bottom?

Cannot delete/remove avatar and blog title

Look at this:

As you can see from the screenshot above (it’s how this post looks like on my dashboard), I’ve removed the reblogged text content. Before removing said content, the avatar and blog title of the people I’ve reblogged this post from also showed up before my own content.

Now that I’ve removed all of the reblogged text content, all the text on this post is mine / written by me (unless stated otherwise) and you can even see a bigger version of my avatar on the left side of the page on the Tumblr dashboard.

So, what is the point of having that small avatar and blog title right below my text content when it’s already obvious that the text is mine? The sad thing is that there’s no way to delete this because it doesn’t show up in the rich text post editor.

Messed up my scheduled reblogs

I have a lot of scheduled posts in my queue (especially for Potter Plotholes) because I’m trying to keep my blogs updated daily. Aside from original content, I also reblog posts and add my own commentary.

Since Tumblr messed up the reblog feature with their unwanted changes, I’ve always removed the reblogged text that shows up on top of the page when you reblog a post. I then paste parts of that text at the bottom of my article and add a read more link.

Thanks to this new change, everything got messed up. Look at this:

This is a screenshot of one of the reblogs that I have on my queue for Potter Plotholes. What’s wrong with this screenshot?

The 1st paragraph wasn’t supposed to show up on the dashboard. It’s the reblogged text content and I placed it at the end of the article but, thanks to this reblog change, look at what happened

The title is mine. I always add titles to my posts, even the photo posts. If you look at the blog where I reblogged this post from, you won’t see the title there because it’s mine. That title is mine and yet, look at the screenshot. It looks as if the title isn’t mine even though it totally is.

Trying to edit that post and the other ones that I have is a no-go because the title looks as if it’s part of the reblogged text now

Trying to move the reblogged text is a no-go too because it will require a lot of work

Ugh, I wish I hadn’t scheduled so many reblogs. Tumblr, please fix this. Please.

I just checked some of my already published reblogs with commentaries and they look awful and messed up on the dashboard. Take a look at this screenshot from this post:

Just like the scheduled post screenshot, the title on the above screenshot is mine and yet it’s being attributed to someone else. Tumblr staff, what’s going on?

I thought you said in your post about the reblog change that you didn’t want others to “edit your words” and that “nobody should be able to put words in your mouth” so how come you’re not attributing the text properly? Kindly fix this, please?

Cannot add proper titles to reblogs

Previously, if you reblogged a text post, you’ll be taken to the rich text editor for the text post. This includes a title box where you can add your own title. Tumblr messed this up thanks to their reblog change and, now, unfortunately, sadly, this is no longer possible. Look at this:

Compare the above screenshots with this:

The screenshots are drafts of a reblogged post that I’m currently working on but which I’m probably not going to be scheduling anytime soon considering the reblog nightmare mess.

I actually reblogged the post in question before the reblog changes took place, which was why I was able to add a title to the reblog. After the changes took place, that reblogged post now looks like the first 2 screenshots.

I now regret not coming up with a title for that post right away. Yes, the current title you see on the screenshot is merely a placeholder. I was planning to change it later on since I was still working on the post. That’s impossible now.

Somehow, that title is seen by Tumblr as reblogged text content so I can only delete/remove it. I can’t change or edit it. If I remove it, I end up with the first 2 screenshots. As you can see, there is no longer a title textbox. What happened to the title textbox for text posts? Looks like reblogged posts are being reblogged as- what exactly? Tumblr staff, please fix this.

Small consolation

The only consolation for this nightmare is the fact that, for now at least, our blogs seem to be unaffected by the reblog mess. However, if your reblogged post doesn’t have a title (meaning if you are unable to properly add a title via the title textbox), then, in your blog, the post in question will also not have a title, which is not good.

Tumblr, please don’t mess with our blogs and please bring back the reblog posts as text post feature. I’d like to add titles to all of my posts.

What does everyone else have to say about all this? Do you think that Tumblr staff will listen to our concerns/feedback?

i-knew-a-boy

It was unique before, now it just looks like facebook comments.

Literally everybody hates this update, please change it back
