You may know Elle King as the daughter of all-time great comedian Rob Schneider, famous for blockbuster roles in Deuce Bigalow: Male Gigolo, The Hot Chick, and Grown Ups.

Actually, you probably don’t. Consider that a bonus fact on this journey of learning about a soulful singer-songwriter on the rise.

Elle King, currently based in Los Angeles, released her debut album Love Stuff on February 17th through RCA. Both the album and it’s lead single — “Ex’s & Oh’s” — have steadily worked their way up the charts, making noticeable moves into the Top 10 of both Billboard’s US Rock and Alternative charts.

Her popularity has earned her a spot on tour with James Bay (James BABE, according to King), introducing her to larger crowds across the US during the month of May, before jumping on to a few festival lineups during the Summer.

King spoke with Fresh 102.7’s Christine Richie as the latest artists in the Fresh First series. Here are 5 Facts About Elle King you probably never knew before, minus that Rob Schneider gem we dropped on you earlier.

“Ex’s & Oh’s” is about ALL of her exes

Musicians make a living writing songs about love, whether it’s about finding it or losing it. King decided “Ex’s & Oh’s” would cover all of them.

“It’s a list of my ex-boyfriends, in order, over the past two years,” explains King. “And then, in between that, the chorus really ties it all together because all of the other people I’ve slept with, who try and get booty calls from me, they do call me all the time, and sometimes it works.”

She never goes to the doctor

“I webMD things,” says King, who swears she isn’t a hypochondriac. “I’m curious and I hate going to the doctor because I’m, ugh, so lazy.”

She was dumped at a Neil Diamond cover show

Bad break ups are a dime a dozen, but being dumped while a Neil Diamond cover band performs is a serious case of love on the rocks.

“The Black Diamond Experience. This crazy guy who does Neil Diamond songs and I got dumped at that show,” recalls King. “‘Sweet Caroline’ will never sound the same.”

She wants to make out with LL Cool J

LL Cool J’s lips are never dry, making him a perfect make out partner.

“Ladies love Cool J,” says King. “I could go on and on about all the guys that I like, but Ll Cool J is, like, really up there.”

Her best date ever wasn’t even a date

Sometimes the best time of your life is one you never see coming. Too bad most dates don’t work out that way.

“It wasn’t a date, but it was like a… the best night with a person… a night in Paris after tour,” recalls King. “The bartender let us play piano, and smoke joints, and drink, and make out ’til like 6 o’clock in the morning.”

“It was a night to remember. I wrote a song about him,” says King of the album’s final track, “See You Again.”
