The Congress is tipped to take power in Punjab, winning 62-71 seats in the 117-member assembly, an India Today-Axis My India exit poll said.
Punjab has turned into a battle ground for 117 assembly seats. As said during the elections, this is a battle of good and evil. There is dilemma going on as to will head the state this time, will it be Congress, SAD-BJP (Shiromani Akali Dal-Bharatiya Janata Party) or first-timer AAP (Aam Aadmi Party).
A voter turnout of 78.6 per cent was recorded in the Punjab Assembly elections 2017. This is very similar to last election’s 78.5 per cent voter turnout. With the entry of debutant (in Punjab) the Arvind Kejriwal-led Aam Aadmi Party, the Punjab Assembly elections have become more interesting. Around 54 percent of the respondents are unhappy with the SAD-BJP government’s performance. In the meanwhile, stakes are also high for Congress with Captain Amrindar Singh returing back to Congress, makes it more stronger.
A victory for Congress will mean redemption for Captain Amarinder Singh and more importantly for Congress vice president Rahul Gandhi who is scrambling to save his party’s existence in the country’s political space.
The ruling Shiromani Akali Dal-BJP alliance was headed towards a rout, it said, giving the Aam Aadmi Party 42-51 seats.
