Karma Kitchen September Edition at Himalayan Heritage  in Adams Morgan

by donation meal, Indian food, made by and served by a team of volunteers. Karma Kitchen is a volunteer-driven experiment in generosity started in Berkeley, California on March 31st 2007 based on the principles of a "gift economy." Your meal experience is gifted by volunteers: prepared, cooked and served from the heart to you. People of all backgrounds join together for a healthy vegetarian meal in a very set menu. You can eat as much or as little as you wish. All are welcome to join and to invite others to join as well.

This month they welcome Nicole Salimbene, whose art explores themes of mindfulness and conflicts between the internal and external worlds. She will discuss how she uses form and idea in her art to encourage contemplation and provoke dialogue.

The Latin American Center for Graduate Studies in Music presents a concert celebrating the music of Spanish composer, Enrique Granados (1867-1916) in Ward Recital Hall. The program, which is free and open to the public, includes selections from his piano music, chamber music, songs and his opera, Goyescas. The music will be performed by School of Music faculty, students and alumni, and several special guests.

From the event page: "The DC Guerrilla Poetry Insurgency (GPI) Lyrical Ambush creates a space for artists to explore social justice, racism, campaign finance, international events, police brutality, war vs peace, corporate domination vs meaningful democracy, the “war on drugs,” and the misuse of fear to degrade civil liberties.  2016 is an unprecedented year in American politics and we KNOW this community is holding onto some bombs and fire – come kick it with us -- guerrilla style at Sunday Open Mics in (one more next month on Sunday, October 23 from 4:00pm - 6:00pm). We welcome families with bubbles, sidewalk chalk and encourage kids to share the mic alongside seasoned artists and passerbys. Musicians, drummers, percussionists would add spice. A GPI Ambush includes whoever shows up to listen and share their truth."
