Opening Drum Circle

10:00am - 12:00pm

Free
Calling all Drummers and Dancers! Come on out to the Opening Drum Circle for the 12th Annual Greenbelt Green Man Festival this Saturday in Old Greenbelt (100 Centerway) in front of the Mother & Child Statue (in the open space adajcent to the New Deal Cafe). Join your host Trevor Siegel and bring your favorite drum (Djembe, Doumbek, Darbouka, Conga, Frame Drum, etc.), percussive instruments (Bells, Shakers, Clave, Tambourine, etc.) or noise-makers (Didgeridoo, Flute, etc.) and join the drum circle. All Welcome! Folding Chairs will be set up in a semi-circle in front of the stage; just come on up and grab a seat (or stand; or dance around moving to the beat if you prefer). Then stick around for the "Opening Blessing" right after the drum circle to properly kick off the 2016 12th Annual Greenbelt Green Man Festival.
Roosevelt Center - the Heart of Old Greenbelt
131 Centerway - Greenbelt, MD (see directions)

Metro: Greenbelt, it's 2.5 miles from the metro to Roosevelt Center. On Saturday the G12 and G16 buses run from Greenbelt (and also from New Carrollton, which is much further) to Roosevelt Center. Both take about 15 minutes from Greenbelt Station, depending on traffic, and stop running around 10:00pm. Note: There is no bus service at all on Sunday. You can also take a taxi or uber (though I wouldn't recommend uber for pick up, only for drop-off, the pick up and parking lot at that station is confusing since one exit goes only on and off from the highway and the other one goes to local streets, hard to pin the exact address to make sure you get picked up on the residential side), it should probably cost about $10 for the cab if you decide to do that.

Plus, performances by Women of the World Champion Imani Cezanne and cellist Benjamin Gates.

The goal of LTAB-DMV is not solely to promote a culture of literacy, critical thought, self-confidence, and powerful public speaking, but also to purposefully bring students together across lines of region, race, religion, ethnicity, gender, sexuality, socio-economic status, and politics to listen to, learn from, and bond with one another. Spoken word poetry is the bridge these students use to promote tolerance, understanding, and non-violent conflict resolution. They are making changes in their selves and in their communities.
