Community Celebration on the 11th St Bridge
Local 11th Street Bridge Celebration
12:00pm - 3:00pm
Come join the fun at the Local 11th Street Bridge Celebration on Saturday afternoon, connecting 11th St SE with Anacostia! This festive community event will feature live music from local bands, Truckaroo on the bridge, face painting, story telling and crafting for kids and much more. The event will commemorate the completion and full opening of the new local bridge portion of the larger 11th Street Bridge Project and will also honor fallen Metropolitan Police Officer Kevin J. Welsh.
Event takes place on the local section of the 11th St Bridge, see map on this page, below. Nearest Metro Stations: Anacostia, Potomac Ave or Eastern Market, recommend biking from any of these stations if you have a bike.  More about the bridge for those interested: By far the largest DDOT project underway, the 11th Street Bridge Project is critical to improving travel and achieving the larger vision of the Anacostia Waterfront Initiative. The project replaces two bridges built in the '60s with three new bridges that separate local and freeway traffic. The new freeway bridges provides direct connections between the SE-SW Freeway and both directions of Interstate/DC-295, fixing a long-standing issue that forced motorists to use local streets to connect to and from both freeways. The new local bridge also includes a 14-foot-wide pedestrian/bicycle path on the bridge, connecting the Anacostia Riverwalk Trail!
