First Thursday on South Congress

First Thursday happens this week and takes place along South Congress Avenue, generally from Barton Springs Road to Elizabeth Street. The SoCo block party starts at 6pm and the stores along South Congress that normally close early stay open late until about 10pm. They will be joined by craft vendors, live music, and special guests. The Taming of the Shrew at Zilker Hillside Theatre

Come out for art under the stars as the sun sets at Zilker Hillside Theater. This weekend’s performance will be Shakespeare’s The Taming of the Shrew. The popular play is a comedy believed to have been written in the mid 15th century. Dogs must be on leash and picnics are allowed (no alcohol). FREE, but bring $5 for parking. BOARDLife All-Day Grand Opening Celebration

BOARDLife, a Colorado-based longboard lifestyle boutique, celebrates its first Texas location with an all-day celebration. The party kicks off at 10:00 a.m. with free breakfast tacos for the first 100 guests. Shoppers will enjoy specials on longboard gear, accessories, and apparel all day long. Austin Piano Festival’s Opening Gala Concert

The 600th Moonlight Prowl at UT Austin

First conducted in 1988, the Moonlight Prowl is a nighttime campus tour packed with anecdotes of student life, campus architecture, and UT history. With content drawn from newspaper accounts, memoirs, and the UT archives, the Prowl is intended to help personalize the University, explore its history, and have some fun. The Prowl starts at 8pm. Ice Cream Cocktails Party

Celebrate the flavors of the season with ice cream cocktails at Métier Cook’s Supply made by Lick co-owner and chef, Anthony Sobotik, and owner of Genius Gin, Mike Groener. Anthony and Mike will be showcasing two inventive gin and ice cream cocktails – one shaken and one stirred – using seasonal, locally sourced ingredients. Raising Artists Exhibition by Generous Art

Raising Artists is a professional development program for artists at different stages of their creative pursuits. Music Under the Star

Bring your family, a picnic dinner, and a blanket or chairs to the Bullock Texas State History Museum every Sunday in May to enjoy FREE concerts presented by the American Federation of Musicians. All concerts are FREE, family-friendly and highlight local musical talent. This week’s artists are The Bluebonnets (Rock), Ruby Dee & The Snakehandlers (Americana), and Corrina Rachel (Jazz). Each concert starts at 4 pm in the museum rotunda with performances outside in the Lone Star Plaza beginning at 5 pm.
