On Super Bowl Sunday, the only thing more popular than the players or the commercials is the food you and your friends have cooked up. At most Super Bowl parties you’ll find chips and dips galore, buffalo wings, potato skins, and tons of other high fat, unhealthy foods. Luckily, there are plenty of delicious options for snacks and entrees that can help keep your diet on the right track.

Enjoy Chips & Dip?

Let’s be honest – turning down chips and dip is pretty difficult. Plus, once you start, it’s tough to stop. If you still want to indulge in your favorite snack, try making some simple switches. For starters, instead of buying fried tortilla or potato chips, try some baked varieties. As far as dips go, try opting for some that are non-cream based. Salsa is always a healthy, delicious choice. Look for fresh some fresh-made salsa at your grocery store or make your own! Guacamole is also a healthy option (as long as you don’t eat a ton of it). Love That Fried Chicken?

Fried chicken is another food tough to resist. In addition to whole fried chicken legs or breasts, let’s include those tasty fried chicken wings. You can make delicious “fried” chicken and wings at home at a fraction of the calories and fat.  The Cook This Not That Cookbook has a delicious recipe for Oven-Fried Chicken. It just requires some Frank’s Red Hot Sauce, panko bread crumbs, some spices and buttermilk, and voila! You have a delicious treat that will taste indulgent, but won’t wreck your health goals.

Can’t Resist Tater Tots?

Tater tots are a classic favorite. They’re delicious and so easy to eat. Unfortunately, they’re packed with fat and carbs. If you’re still craving a tasty tot, try making cauliflower tots instead. Recently, cauliflower has become a popular potato alternative. When prepared properly, they can be as soft as mashed potatoes, and you’ll hardly notice the difference. We found a great cauliflower tot recipe that uses Colby Jack cheese, panko breadcrumbs, a little onion and garlic, eggs, and cauliflower. You can check it out here.

What Other Options are There?

One healthy and super easy snack is a vegetable platter. You can pick up a pre-made one at the store, or put one together yourself. You can include broccoli, bell peppers, carrots or celery. Many come with ranch dip. Instead, try making ranch dip made with Greek yogurt for a healthy dose of protein and zero fat! The Center Cut Cook blog has a great recipe.

Otherwise, try plain popcorn, nuts (in moderation), grilled chicken tenders, or baked fries.
