TcL Scripting for Cisco IOS,
A guide to building and modifying Tcl scripts to automate network administration tasks Streamline Cisco network administration and save time with Tcl scripting Cisco networking professionals are under relentless pressure to accomplish more, faster, and with fewer resources. The best way to meet this challenge is to automate mundane or repetitive tasks wherever possible. In this book, three Cisco experts show you how to use Tcl scripting for Cisco IOS devices to do just that. You’ll learn easy techniques for creating, using, and modifying Tcl scripts that run directly on Cisco network devices from the Cisco IOS command line. The authors first teach basic Tcl commands and concepts for capturing and manipulating data and for querying or controlling Cisco equipment. Building on these core skills, they show you how to write scripts that automate and streamline many common IOS configuration, monitoring, and problem-solving tasks. The authors walk through the entire script development process, including planning and flowcharting what you want to accomplish, formatting your code, adding comments, and troubleshooting script errors. They also present many downloadable sample scripts, along with practical guidance for adapting them to your own environment. Whatever your role in managing, monitoring, or securing Cisco IOS networks and equipment, this book will help you get the job done more rapidly and efficiently. Automate routine administration tasks you’ve always performed manually Instantly collect and modify IOS router configurations and other data Write Syslog scripts to document failures, monitor network health, collect statistics, and send alarm messages Implement automated network performance measurement using IP SLA Use the Embedded Event Manager’s event detectors, server, and policies to customize device operation Trigger preplanned actions to correct problems as they arise Simplify policy management using the Tcl script refresh feature Protect Tcl script security with digital signatures and PKI Understand how Tcl functions within the Cisco IOS environment Master Tcl syntax and commands through hands-on practice Learn best scripting practices through expert examples Quickly modify this book’s examples for your own environment This book is part of the Networking Technology Series from Cisco Press®, which offers networking professionals valuable information for constructing efficient networks, understanding new technologies, and building successful careers.

Measuring SIP Proxy Server Performance,
Internet Protocol (IP) telephony is an alternative to the traditional Public Switched Telephone Networks (PSTN), and the Session Initiation Protocol (SIP) is quickly becoming a popular signaling protocol for VoIP-based applications. SIP is a peer-to-peer multimedia signaling protocol standardized by the Internet Engineering Task Force (IETF), and it plays a vital role in providing IP telephony services through its use of the SIP Proxy Server (SPS), a software application that provides call routing services by parsing and forwarding all the incoming SIP packets in an IP telephony network. SIP Proxy Server Performance closely examines key aspects to the efficient design and implementation of SIP proxy server architecture. Together, a strong design and optimal implementation can enable significant enhancements to the performance characteristics of SPS. Since SPS performance can be characterized by the transaction states of each SIP session, the book analyzes an existing M/M/1-network performance model for SIP proxy servers in light of key performance benchmarks, such as the average response time for processing the SIP calls and the average number of SIP calls in the system. It also presents several other real-world industrial case studies to aid in further optimizations. This book is intended for researchers, practitioners and professionals interested in optimizing SIP proxy server performance. Professionals working on other VoIP solutions will also find the book valuable.

Agile Processes in Software Engineering and Extreme Programming,11th International Conference, XP 2010, Trondheim, Norway, June 1-4, 2010, Proceedings
Interest in agile development continues to grow: the number of practitioners adopting such methodologies is increasing as well as the number of researchers investigating the effectiveness of the different practices and proposing improvements. The XP c- ference series has actively participated in these processes and supported the evolution of Agile, promoting the conference as a place where practitioners and researchers meet to exchange ideas, experiences, and build connections. XP 2010 continued in the tradition of this conference series and provided an int- esting and varied program. As usual, we had a number of different kinds of activities in the conference program including: research papers, experience reports, tutorials, workshops, panels, lightning talks, and posters. These proceedings contain full - search papers, short research papers, and experience reports. Moreover, we have also included in these proceedings the abstracts of the posters, the position papers of the PhD symposium, and the abstract of the panel. This year we had two different program committees for evaluating research papers and experience reports. Each committee included experts in the specific area. This approach allowed us to better evaluate the quality of the papers and provide better suggestions to the authors to improve the quality of their contributions.
