The daughter of a Norwegian Viking and a Finnish Moomin, Karina Halle grew up in Vancouver, Canada with trolls and eternal darkness on the brain. This soon turned into a love of all things that go bump in the night and a rather sadistic appreciation for freaking people out.
Karina holds a screenwriting degree from Vancouver Film School and a Bachelor of Journalism from TRU. Her travel writing, music reviews/interviews and photography have appeared in publications such as Consequence of Sound, Mxdwn and GoNomad Travel Guides. She currently splits her time between her apartment in downtown Vancouver and her sailboat, where a book and a bottle of wine are always at hand. She is hard at work on her next novel.
Please tell readers about your current book.
Shooting Scars is the sequel to Sins & Needles. It picks up where the last book left off and has three very damaged, dark and sexy characters who intertwine on their own journey through revenge and redemption. It's a gritty, edgy romance guaranteed to take you on a wild ride.
Who or what inspires your writing?
I'm inspired by many things but music has to be number one. I've created books based on albums, characters based on musicians, scenes based on songs. Otherwise I'm quite inspired by film, worldly events, and my favorite authors.
When did you know you would be a writer?
Since I was a little girl - I was always drawing and making up stories.
How long did it take you to write your first novel?
Six weeks. I'd written many screenplays before but never had the patience to finish a novel. I decided to do Nano-Wrimo combined with a 30-day challenge and Darkhouse, (which is currently free on Amazon), was a result of that.
What is the hardest part of writing for you?
Not being distracted. I've been known to swear off the internet for weeks at a time and become a total social hermit just to get work done.
Do you have any writing rituals?
I go outside - for a walk or a bike ride, to clear my head. Then I make sure I have a lot of coffee at hand! When it gets really rough, I unplug the internet.
Have you written any thing else?
I have seven books and four novellas in the Experiment in Terror Series, with two more on the way. I have a horror romance called The Devil's Metal, with the sequel out in the fall. And the first two books in The Artists Trilogy, of course.
Any advice to aspiring writers?
Stop talking about writing a book and just do it. And once you do write it, don't get discouraged. Don't expect to self-publish a hit book right away or get a publishing deal or an agent. It's an over-saturated market now and these things take time for most people. The success stories are not the norm.

Stephen King, Karen Marie Monning
What are your favorite books, or which book has impacted you the most?
I love Jane Eyre, (which is also free for Kindle). The mystery, the creepiness, the romantic tension, the jackassy Mr. Rochester, Jane's headstrongness. Perfect blend of everything I love in a book.

Texas Gothic by Rosemary Clement Moore.
