oh my god im laughing because apparently so many people not familiar with the british education system think that the whole school houses thing was a made up thing in harry potter?? like no we actually have those

Ours were named after local Welsh rivers. I was in Hafren, which is the killy one.

Ours were called “Eilian, Elidir, Eryri and Gwyrfai,” so now that I think about it, I haven’t the foggiest idea what the theme was for that.

I was Eilian, in any case.  People used to call us “the clever house” to make us feel better for always losing the sports events.

I was in Maelog and both my siblings were in Crigyll, but it was never really relevant until Sports Day when I’d KICK CRIGYLL’S ASS

I was in Raglan because ours were named after famous Welsh castles and we always beat Conwy because they were wimpy losers and Conwy is a shit castle anyway probably and also my twin sister was in Conwy. Posers.

can a trustworthy brit confirm or deny this i feel like im being hornswoggled

Hello I am a trustworthy Brit who just confirmed this

omg …
i’m in Aus and we don’t have houses but we have colours or gemstones (?? yeah idk) I was in diamond when i was a kid we sucked at everything

Nah we do have them in Australia. I can’t remember what they where in primary school but in high school they were stanly, scot, weinsmith and Gleason.

Also Australian, and can confirm that we often (but not always) have school houses. In my primary school, there were two - Scott and Kendall - and in my high school, there were four: Araluen, Corrumben, Narrara and Warrigal.
