Miguel Angel Martinez has resigned as Sullivan City's Police Chief amid criminal charges

The announcement was made by city officials today, who assure residents that police will continue providing service as they search for a new replacement.

Sullivan City Police Department loses yet another police chief.

In a statement issued to FOX 2 news, City Manager Judy Davila says 36-year-old Miguel Angel Martinez tendered his letter of resignation, ending nearly 12-years of service with the department.

Martinez became chief of police in late 2013, but was indicted by a grand jury over two months ago after Texas Rangers raided the department and charged him with abuse of official capacity and theft, to which he's pled not guilty.

The charges stem from allegations that he allowed another officer to take marijuana from the evidence room.

The department has gone through at least four police chiefs in the past 6 years.

Residents tell us they would like to see the city's image improve, hoping the next police chief will reform the department.
