A big announcement from the governor’s office today has the longest serving governor in Texas history resigning after his third term. We have the early reaction from the strongly democratic leaning county of Hidalgo.
It was in December 2000 when George W. Bush stepped down as Texas governor to serve as U.S. president for two terms. Republican party member Rick Perry and has been in office for over 12 years. The 2014 ballot, however, will not feature Perry’s name, a fact that some in democratic leaning hidalgo county are relishing.
Perry’s absence in the governor’s chair has lead to speculation that fellow republican and long-time Texas attorney general Gregg Abbott will take his place. Guerra, who is also an elected official, hopes for more bi-partisan cooperation within the Texas congress from whomever serves as Texas’s next governor.
With the announcement made just this afternoon we’ll have plenty to follow up with in terms of how this will affect the Rio Grande Valley’s independent school districts. Make sure to keep it here on Fox 2 news this week for more reaction and reviews from the around the region.
