INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. – Two Indianapolis men were arrested early Friday morning after police say they burglarized a near west side store. The arrests likely saved Temple Rentals thousands of dollars in damages.
Officers were called to the small business in the 3300 block of West Washington Street around 4 a.m. to investigate an alarm that had been tripped.
When officers arrived, they reportedly spotted 22-year-old James Krolik run from behind the business and jump a concrete barrier. Officer ordered him to stop, but he reportedly ignored their commands and continued running down an embankment towards a creek bed. Officer eventually caught up with him and he was placed into custody, although police say he attempted to resist.
The officers apprehended a second suspect, 39-year-old Donald Sample, who also allegedly tried to resist.
Police say several electronics were found on the suspects, including a damaged iPad and a cell phone, as well as a sheriff’s deputy badge. Some of the property found on the suspects is believed to belong to the business. Officers also found evidence inside the business that indicated the suspect’s had intended to steal more electronics.
Both Krolik and Sample were preliminarily charged with burglary, theft and resisting law enforcement.
Businesses owners are reminded to equip buildings with monitored alarms and surveillance video systems to assist law enforcement in capturing would be thieves.
