1) JACK RYAN: SHADOW RECRUIT (PG-13)

Paramount Pictures

Tom Clancy’s heroic CIA analyst returns to the big screen in “Jack Ryan: Shadow Recruit,” a familiar but effective political thriller. Chris Pine from “Star Trek” fame steps into the role previously played by Alec Baldwin, Harrison Ford and Ben Affleck in a story that serves as a complete reboot of the franchise. Veterans Kevin Costner as Ryan‘s CIA boss and Kenneth Branagh as a villainous Russian capitalist add some gravitas.

SHAWN

Yes, another reboot. However, “Jack Ryan: Shadow Recruit” just may be the weirdest movie of the year. After watching I was somewhat impressed but at the same time a bit underwhelmed. So confusing. But maybe it’s because Chris Pine delivers like a champ. But the movie overall strikes out.

RUSS

The movie loses credibility along the way, but is still rousing enough to please most action fans.

SHAWN

And like the movie the bonus material is very blah, somewhat derivative, predictable and hokey. Sorry Chris Pine. Overall “Jack Ryan; Shadow Recruit” is a fail.

2) NON-STOP (PG-13)

Universal Pictures

Now here we go. Mr. Reliable — Liam Neeson does it again. Can anyone pimp a formula better than this guy. All he does his change the title because the ooverall concept stays the same in every movie. This time dude spends a majority of the movie on a plane but you already know how it’s going down. And if you don’t well just ask a friend, lover, co-worker or neighbor. I am sure they are well aware of the Liam Neeson situation. I just don’t understand. If you are a bad guy and see Liam Neeson on the plane why don’t you cancel your terror plot? He’s gonna stop you, get his daughter back, fight off a pack of wolves. But Liam does what Liam does and he delivers in “Non-Stop” which never takes flight but gets you to your destination. The extras a re lame but overall “Non-Stop” is an intense and thrilling movie that’s worth a watch.
