LITTLETON, Colo. — A Littleton woman was charged with stealing nearly $10,000 from a Jefferson County high school booster club.
Kathleen McGarth, 56, faces one count of theft for allegedly taking funds from a girl’s volleyball team booster club at Chatfield High School, announced the First Judicial District Attorney’s office Tuesday.
The DA’s office said the coach of the team contacted the Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office in March 2013 to report that money was missing from the booster club’s account and they were unable to get in touch with their treasurer, McGrath — the 56-year-old served as treasurer of the Chatfield High School Spiker’s Booster Club from March 2012 through February 2013, when the money was allegedly stolen.
Account funds came from fundraising efforts to benefit the team, according to the DA’s office. McGarth handled most of the cash received from these efforts and was in charge of depositing the money into the account.
Investigators said they believe there were $9,976 in purchases and withdrawals from the account not related to booster-club business.
Authorities issued a felony summons to McGrath in October 2013.
Her failure to respond led deputies to issue a warrant for her arrest in November 2013.
The DA’s office said McGrath was arrested on Thursday, after which she posted a $5,000 bond.
She is scheduled for her first court appearance on March 24 in Jefferson County, said the DA’s office.
