ST. LOUIS, MO (KTVI)-This week is National Child Passenger Safety Week. The Missouri Coalition for Roadway Safety wants to make sure all young children are buckled up properly. In 2014, seventeen children eight years old and younger were killed in vehicle crashes in Missouri. Thirty-one percent of those kids were not restrained in a car seat or safety belt.

There will be increased enforcement of Missouri's child seat safety laws during the campaign that runs September 13-19, 2015.

Missouri law requires all children under eight to be in an appropriate child safety seat or booster seat, unless:

They are at least 80 pounds.

They are at least 4'9" tall.

MoDOT and SSM Health Cardinal Glennon Children’s Hospital are holding a safety fair that will focus on proper usage of car seats, the importance of buckling up, the use of bike helmets, household safety, and health.  The Safety Fair includes traffic safety demonstrations, games, free health screening for all ages and giveaways such as bike helmets, hot dogs, popcorn, refreshments, and much more. The free Safety Fair will be held on Saturday, September 19, 2015, from 10:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. on the back lot of Betty Jean Kerr People's Health Centers, 5701 Delmar Blvd.
