Pioneer Base
Earth’s orbit

Captain Garff just got done talking to the Italian ship commanders and was now on his way to meet the Spanish ship commanders before heading out on an orbital patrol.

Many of the American, Indian, and Greek crewmembers were busy conversing with the new arrivals, welcoming them to the space fleet and sharing some space combat tips with them.

Captain Garff was just about to pass through the middle of the hallway when he heard Admiral Kathy’s voice.

He looked to the right and saw her coming down the hall with a group of six Spanish naval officers behind her, two of them looked like Admirals and she was leading them on a tour of the base.

Garff didn’t see any harm in introducing himself to the group, so he decided to head towards them as they came to a stop in front of one of the televators.

“This may look like an elevator but it’s called a televator because it gets people to the upper and lower levels of this base by instantly teleporting them the moment they tell the voice automated system which floor to take them to. For security reasons, anyone who steps in will be asked to identify themselves and then they’ll be scanned by the bio sensor to ensure that they are who they say they are before initiating any teleport,” Kathy explained.

“A very impressive piece of technology. Is it already in widespread use in America and throughout the space fleet?” one of the Spanish Lieutenants asked.

“It’s a new invention so the only ones currently available are located on this base, but we may install them on our other bases later. They might even make their way into civilian buildings in the not too distant future,” Kathy replied as Garff approached them.

“Admiral Kathy.”

“Captain Garff, have you met any of the new arrivals yet?”

“Yes ma’am, I was on my way to meet some more of them when I saw you and your guest coming down the hallway and I just wanted to say hello to them if that’s alright.”

“Not a problem. Ladies and gentlemen allow me to introduce you all to Captain Haymen Garff, commander of the space destroyer USS Hydra. Captain Garff, this is Admiral Gonzalez and Admiral Estrada. These two men were selected by the King of Spain himself to command their nations first two intergalactic battlecruisers and the men and women you see with them are some of their crewmembers.”

“I thought you guys were only building space destroyers.”

“So did we Captain, but our government and navy decided that battlecruisers were must haves for our space fleet so we’ve decided to build three of them. The first one will be named the Rota which I will command and Admiral Estrada will be in command of the Montserrat. The third ship has no name yet but it will be given one closer to completion.”

“Very impressive development Admiral Gonzalez.”

“Like the Italians, the Indians and the Greeks, the Spanish are new to whole space fleet thing and they’ve been getting a lot of technical assistance from us and Germany in the construction of their ships and the Sparrowhawk fighters their battlecruisers will carry,” Admiral Kathy pointed out.

Garff took a quick look at his watch and discovered that he had a few minutes left before heading out on an orbital patrol with the rest of the U.S. space destroyer fleet with the exception of the Montpelier which was away on a space patrol of its own.

“Admiral Gonzalez, Admiral Estrada, before I head out I just want to say congratulations on putting your first intergalactic warships into orbit and I’m looking forward to seeing the rest of your ships amongst the stars soon.”

“So do we Captain Garff,” Admiral Estrada replied.
