The Pentagon Force Protection Agency (PFPA) is a civilian Defense Agency within the Department of Defense charged with protecting and safeguarding the occupants, visitors, and infrastructure of the Pentagon, and other assigned Pentagon facilities. This critical mission is accomplished with law enforcement officer (United States Pentagon Police), criminal investigative and protective services agents; threat management agents; chemical, biological, radiological, nuclear and explosives technicians; and anti-terrorism/force protection and physical security personnel. PFPA provides a variety of services to its customers to include emergency services, parking management, lock installation/services, classified waste disposal, access control, building pass issuance, emergency escape mask issuance/training, mail screening, and law enforcement.

LAUTENBERG AMENDMENT: This position requires the incumbent to carry a firearm. Any person who has been convicted of a felony or misdemeanor crime of domestic violence cannot lawfully possess a firearm or ammunition (Title 18, USC Section 992(g)). A felony or misdemeanor crime of domestic violence is generally defined under the statute, as an offense involving the use or attempted use of physical force, or the threatened use of a deadly weapon, committed by the victim’s current or former domestic partner, parent or guardian. The term convicted, as defined in the statute, excludes any person whose conviction has been expunged, set-aside or pardoned, or any person whose civil rights have been restored, so long as such restoration does not restrict the shipping, transport, possession or receipt of firearms or ammunition. Candidates who have been convicted of a felony or misdemeanor crime of domestic violence within the meaning of the referenced statutes are not eligible for the position.
As a Police Officer you will be responsible for the following duties:
• Maintain law and order and preserving peace.
• Provide security and access control.
• Search and secure buildings and evacuate personnel.
• Make arrests and enforce Federal and state laws.
• Conduct investigations by interviewing suspects.
• Carry out surveillance and perform inspections.
• Analyze data which requires the ability to integrate complex and conflicting facts and arrive at well-reasoned solutions.
• Interact with other enforcement agencies, legal professionals, and news media.
• Subdue dangerous persons and carry out defensive tactics that include handcuffing drills, hand-to-hand combat, and intermediate weapons use.

Examples of creditable specialized experience are:
For the AD-05 level: You must meet one of the criteria listed below in A-C to qualify at this grade level:
A. Completion of at least four years of education above the high school level leading to a bachelor’s degree in police science or a comparable degree program related to police officer work. Such education must be obtained from an accredited college or university.
OR
B. At least one year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the AD-04 or GS equivalent level in the Federal sector, performing police officer work that demonstrates knowledge of a body of basic or commonly used laws, rules, regulations, procedures, and operating methods and involved responsibility for maintaining order and protecting life and property. Creditable specialized experience may have been gained in work on a police force; through service as a military police officer; in work providing visitor protection and law enforcement in parks, forests, or other natural resource or recreational environments; in performing criminal investigative duties; or in other work that provided the required knowledge or skills.
OR
C. A combination of specialized experience as described in letter B above and post high school education as described in letter A above that totals 100% of the qualification requirements for this position. (Only education in excess of the first 60 semester hours or 90 quarter hours can be credited under this response. One full academic year of study (30 semester hours) beyond the second year is equivalent to 6 months of specialized experience).

The total percentages must equal at least 100 percent to qualify an applicant for that grade level. The weight of semester and quarter hours have been defined above.
