Forgive my elementary question here, but, the military uses training batons with training bags not real metal expandable batons on training bags, is this standard or are we training incorrectly?
I'm an instructor and use ASP training gear. When I went through my instructor certification course over 7 years ago we were instructed to never use the metal batons with the training bags due to the obvious risk of breaking bones and students hurting each other.

Please educate me. At the minimum I'd like to know what I'm talking about when I'm training, if civilian LE trains with real batons I can at least give a disclaimer for the curriculum I must adhere to.
