The 27th October 1979 was the Filmharmonic’s 10th anniversary - celebrating the film and television music of Pinewood Studios, compered by Christopher Reeve. The orchestra this time was The National Philharmonic led by Sidney Sax and guest conductors were Alyn Ainsworth; Stanley Black; Ed Welch and Barry Gray who had scored all of Gerry Anderson’s TV series. The concert had been tinged with sadness as conductor Nino Rota had died suddenly a few weeks before; and days after finalising his music from Pinewood, which he was to conduct. Unlike Filmharmonic 70 and 71 which had double LPS highlighting all of the concerts and recorded live this was only released on a cutdown pre-recorded LP with The rank concert orchestra with the principle conductors conducting their pieces.

I have used a prestine restored Lp transfer of Musical Highlights of Filmharmonic 79 and sourced the exact same music as performed at this concert and attempted to match it in to a concert hall setting. Many of these recordings were recorded years apart so some skill was needed and although not totally perfect it does give the listener a feeling of going back in time to this wonderful concert.

Also for the first time all of the music are from films which were made or part made at Pinewood Studios in England
