Hi Guys,

Thought I would place this here as you can visit what is left of RAF Spilsby.

My family and I went to Lincolnshire to see where Grandad had flown from during the war.

Kevin Mapley from 207 Squadron Association had kindly described where to find the remnants and this is what we found.

RAF Spilsby Double Diamond Dispersal Point-

The area I am standing is the second left diamond as you look at the original photo. Thanks to the airfield information exchange website for pic.

Q-Queenie could have been parked here all those years ago. This was a 207 rather than 44 dispersal point according to Kevin.

Ops Block

This is the operations block. All it would take is a EuroMillions win and I could have my own museum!

Just off the main road, you could drive by and never know it was there

Inside is a bit of a state!

Memorial

The main runway would have run behind the trees. There is a wood named Lancaster wood that is the width of the original runway. Handy to imagine what it would have been like!

Overall there a few golden remnants, but to those unknowing, you could drive past and never know what happened there.

The runways existed until the 70's as did the control tower. Then all taken down for Humber Bridge!

Hope this of interest.

Matt
