NFL Football is back and better than ever!  Let me start by saying Madden NFL 25 is an incremental step from its predecessor, but finally feels like an authentic football game. The Infinity Engine 2 has hit its stride with realistic blocking, tackling, stiff arms, and so much more. You’ll notice instantly the improvements when your players don’t run into the back of your line and fall down or aren’t tripping over each other after a play. Players will place their hands on the line and slide past a player or follow their blockers to the outside on a touchdown run. Make sure to watch your favorite player’s new animations after a big play. You’ll notice some of the most iconic sack and touchdown dances in the real NFL.

Madden NFL 25 celebrates its impressive history by starting the game with a cool intro that leads into the redesigned menu. There’s the All-25 team that will include some of your favorite players from the past 25 years, and you’ll also find several facts about previous games that will appeal to the nostalgic side of gamers that have been with the franchise since the very beginning. The game feels more realistic and has many game modes to keep you playing hour after hour.

The passing game is very similar to last year but there are a few more catch animations that are especially noticeable in the back of the end zone or on the sidelines. You can still dominate with an elite quarterback as you lead your team down the field utilizing tight end streaks, wide receiver curls and slants.

The running game has been improved drastically and really gives the ball carrier a sense of control unlike previous years in the franchise. Precision Modifiers have been added to the game and you can finally feel the cuts, spin moves, truck moves, and leap over a defender with the right joystick. This feature has also changed the return game. Now, instead of fighting for 10 yards on a punt or barely getting to the 20 yard line on a kickoff, you can find yourself cutting to the outside and breaking away for a long return. I was surprised by how many times I found myself second guessing if I should kick it deep or squib it to avoid the long return.

The defense also has to adjust for the new engine. You can no longer just run through the line or outside straight to the quarterback to get the sack.  Now, you find yourself getting hit by a lineman or running back. The defensive backs have been improved to cover wide receivers down the field and you’ll notice a very different presentation when you intercept a pass and are taking it back the other way. This may throw off some gamers, but you’ll get used to it very quickly.

“Ultimate Team” returns with a fantasy football like feel. You can use real money or in-game currency to purchase card packs to get new and higher ranked players.  Also, feel free to do the solo challenges or play against another ultimate team to earn spending currency.

“Connected Franchise” allows you to choose between being a “Player”, “Coach” or “Owner” to lead your favorite team to a championship. All of these modes can be utilized either offline or online. If you choose “Player,” then you’ll play as your favorite player and find yourself only playing one side of the ball.  If you’re looking to just see your team and want a faster gaming experience, then selecting “Player” is for you. If you want to control the team and make choices that will lead you to a championship, then “Coach” is for you.  Lastly, “Owner” mode is back!

In “Owner” mode, you can now control your pricing for tickets, merchandising, stadium upgrades and marketing.  The advisors are always there to guide your decision and give you feedback on the decisions you’ve made. You’re still allowed to simulate the game or play the game. Depending on how well your team plays, you’ll find that it can negatively or positively affect your team’s finances and fan support.

My favorite mode, online player vs. player, has returned and gives football lovers the competition they desire. There’s nothing like beating someone online and knowing that you won!  This mode matches you against an opponent of your same skill level or you can play against one of your friends.

Overall Madden NFL 25 feels great with its updated physics engine, precision modifiers, presentation upgrades, audio enhancements and return of "Owner" mode. If you’re a football fan and are looking for one of the best football games in 25 years, then Madden 25 is for you!
