I recently had to replace both the Alternator and the power steering pump. Did both at the same time. Prior my steering was just fine, nice and firm. With the new PS pump, a rebuilt aftermarket one, the steering got way to light. Like a Buick. I decided to try an OEM pump and got a used pump from a 2001 2.7T model ( same as mine). The steering feel improved somewhat but are still way to light. There are no noise from the pump and the steering seems normal, just to light.
I noticed that I can turn up the pressure a bit by losning the banjo bolt in the PS pump, but it doesnt seem right. I have read that I can tighten up the steering by tightening the steering rack, but as this was just fine prior to the pump replacement, I hesitate to take that route.
What to do?
Any advise is welcomed.
