Brooklyn, NY: Roulette announces its exciting 2012 Fall season which kicks off September 7 with the highly acclaimed Mary Halvorson Septet. Other highlights include one of the worlds most versatile accordionists, Guy Klucevsek, composer Bunita Marcus, leading French bassist Joelle Leandre, Henry Threadgills ZOOID, S.E.M Ensemble, Judith Berkson, Phyllis Chen and more. Dance at Roulette will also continue, presenting cutting edge choreographers such as Sally Silvers and Biba Bell.
Also this season, Roulette introduces a unique partnership with Ear Heart Music, Ear Heart, a series which showcases cutting-edge performers, composers, and collaborative artists, will present performances once a month at Roulettes beautiful, art-deco venue.
Other stand out events include Roulettes benefit event in October, featuring a special performance by multi-disciplinary performance artist Meredith Monk whose impressive, award-winning body of works continues to thrill audiences and whose innovative style is symbolic of Roulettes continued mission to be the leading presenter of experimental performance in New York City.

Zeena Parkins + Ne(x)tworks Ensemble w/JACK Qt.
JACK Qt. joins forces with Ne(x)tworks for two performances of composer, multi-instrumentalist, and electric harp pioneer Zeena Parkins' Spellbeamed. Commissioned by Ne(x)tworks, Spellbeamed takes inspiration from literary critic Walter Benjamin's Archive, a published trove of images, texts, and ephemera collected by the author. For Parkins' new composition, quotidian materials collected by each musician are utilized to form an animated score developed in collaboration with visual artist Cynthia Madansky.

TCP a trio of veteran virtuoso improvisers, from diverse geographic locations and backgrounds, playing together as a group for the first time since 1985. Tim Hodgkinson, Chris Cochrane, and Pippin Barnett intend to teeter on the brink of the impossible in composition and improvisation. Their wide-ranging sonic interests range from jazz to rock to folk to contemporary classical; from West to East, and North to South; from the spiritual to the political; from ancient ritual practice to postmodern soundscapes for dance and theater.

Shakuhachi Exploration with Kinya Sogawa
Plus special guests: Elizabeth Brown, Ned Rothenberg, Ralph Samuelson & Laurie Sogawa
Tokyo shakuhachi virtuoso Kinya Sogawa makes his much anticipated U.S. debut! Unique to the shakuhachi world in that he is both a brilliant performer and highly acclaimed instrument maker, Sogawa is active in diverse genres of traditional and contemporary music--including enka and video game music. For this all-shakuhachi exploration, Sogawa performs meditative solo pieces passed down by the komuso wandering monks of the 17th century as well as new 21st-century works by composers Ned Rothenberg and Elizabeth Brown that expand the sonic language of that tradition, creating new possibilities for the instrument.

Premiere of A Gambler's Hand, music for strings, percussion and storytelling.
A Gamblers Hand, music for electro-acoustic string quartet performed by the Momenta Quartet, drum set, percussion, narration, and guest improvisers will be premiered at Roulette. The composition is an an original story about Pavee, a man with a gambling problem who becomes trapped inside a wall living a life of solitude, and later becoming apart of the wall.

Biba Bell
Biba Bell and Ben Hall present three works: Mouth w/ Objects, THE BELLS, and Cold Vein. Mouth w/ Objects dances things without saying so. The mouth and its objects force ventriloquist moans across the body that stammer and collapse distances of communication. THE BELLS traces localized geographies over a choreography, an architecture, a city, excavating the characteristics of daily life. Cold Vein is a dance through proxy, proposing a lack of adornment as singularity, where one voice vibrates into three. Bell and Hall are based in New York City and Detroit.

Carver Audain
Carver Audain composes music in the Acousmatic tradition, which, as defined by French composer and theorist Pierre Schaefer, refers to a sound that one hears without seeing the causes behind it. He is a self taught pianist, his earliest works are explorations in harmonics utilizing the piano, electronic organ, guitar and cymbals.

"A portrait of the man as an animal"
An evening of talks, theatre and music performances dedicated to the animal side of human nature, with zoomorph and performer Cyril Casmèze, actress and theatre director Jade Duviquet, vocalist, actor and playwright Rinde Eckert, paleoanthropologists Pascal Picq, musician and composer Ned Rothenberg, as well as paleoanthropologist and curator at the American Museum of Natural History Ian Tattersal. This event will be part of a series called "I Contain Multitudes", co-presented with Time Out New York. It will be the closing night of the 4th edition of the Franco-American arts and ideas festival "Walls and Bridges" (held in New York from October 11th to 21st).

Guy Klucevsek
Guy Klucevsek will perform solos from the vast catalogue of over 100 pieces he has composed for accordion since 1982, including tributes to composers György Ligeti, Erik Satie, and Astor Piazzolla, and to fellow accordionists Lars Hollmer (Sweden), Kepa Junkera (Basque) and Ivan Milev (Bulgaria). After intermission, Guy will be joined by New York's reigning classical/jazz violinist (The New Yorker), Todd Reynolds, to preview Guy's score for Lionel Popkin's new dance/theatre piece, "Ruth Doesn't Live Here Anymore," inspired by the work of modern dance pioneer, Ruth St. Denis.

Bunita Marcus began studying composition at the age of sixteen and worked in both electronic and instrumental mediums. Ms. Marcus' music has been consistently praised for its beauty and rare sensitivity. Kyle Gann of the Village Voice has called her one of his favorite women composers of all time. He applauds her piano work Julia for its "touching and unassuming depth," which "had the audience hushed under the impact of deeply communicated feeling." Los Angeles critic Alan Rich says her work Adam and Eve "states an eloquent case for the persistence of pure beauty in contemporary composition."

Judith Berkson is a New York based soprano, pianist and composer who also performs as Liederkreis. She has played on various acclaimed stages, premiering pieces as both a singer and pianist. Ghost Stories, Quintet for Clarinet and Strings, Arbor Vitae and a world premiere piece for String Quartet. Performers will include Erik Friedlander, Min Xiao-Fen, Satoshi Takeishi and the Mivos Quartet.
Composer/Performer Ned Rothenberg has been internationally acclaimed for both his solo and ensemble music, presented for the past 30 years in North and South America, Europe and Asia. He performs primarily on the alto saxophone, clarinet , bass clarinet, and the shakuhachi - an end blown Japanese bamboo flute.

Alfredo Marin
Alfredo Marin, is a music/sound artist currently living and working in New York City. The vocabulary of Alfredo's work is a synthesis of melodic and harmonic moments, concrete recorded sounds, and abstract electronic sound coupled with the possibilities inherent in the theatrical aspects of sound production (loudspeakers) and performance. Alfredo's body of work is quite diverse in terms of style, genre, and aesthetic.

French double bass player, improviser and composer, Joëlle Léandre is one of the dominant figures of the new European music. Trained in orchestral as well as contemporary music, she has played with lItinéraire, 2e2m and Pierre Boulezs Ensemble Intercontemporain. Joëlle Léandre has also worked with Merce Cunningham and John Cage, who has composed especially for her as have Scelsi, Fénelon, Hersant, Lacy, Campana, Jolas, Clementi and about 40 composers.

John King, composer, guitarist and violist, has received commissions from the Kronos Quartet; Red {an orchestra}, Ethel; the Albany Symphony/Dogs of Desire, Bang On A Can All-Stars; Mannheim Ballet; New York City Ballet/Diamond Project, Stuttgart Ballet, Ballets de Monte Carlo; as well as the Merce Cunningham Dance Co. His string quartets have also been performed by the Eclipse Quartet (LA) and the Mondriaan Quartet (Amsterdam). His quartet Crucible has premiered many of his compositions at The Stone (June 2007) and The Kitchen (April 2009).
