A. Have you ever played Nationals? Yes, a long time ago. I think it was at GenCon
B. If not why? N/A
C. What would have to change to get you to attend? The event would have to be essentially a standalone tournament.
D. If you have did you play this year? Nope
E. If not why? There are too many events and great people at Historicon to get wrapped up in a table of gaming. If Battlefront wanted to try to do something they could ask Nationals members to bring two lists and then have a 3 turn bout on Friday where there is a 'daily' victor and then another 3 turn bout on Saturday where there is a daily winner, but overall winner as well. Yea, it'd involve a lot of work, but just think, you develop the system once, its done. And what if it brings more interested parties in. Maybe overall you get more players because you have quite a run on Friday, and still some leakage on Saturday. Other thing is, you could change the points and era between both days or the theater. It leaves more possibilities. But yes, on the front end...more work.

I've had other frustrations with the rules as they've evolved. This is another thing that holds me back from playing. I enjoyed playing Commandos and FSSF, 2 very assaulty armies. Now that Breakthrough assault is gone, and the platoons are small, what makes one thinks I enjoy taking those if I know that instead of potentially facing just 2 defensive fires in a turn, I'll face a defensive fire as I go in, if I win, it goes to the next turn, and the team I would have broke through assault on gets to A.) attempt to shoot me smaller first and if it fails wait until my next turn to assault them and basically make a breakthrough into a two turn assault or B.) they succeed and enter combat and after getting to shoot me, get to swing at me first or C.) They fail to whittle me down more, charge in anyway, and oh...get first swing. Some forces needed Breakthrough assault to thrive. I just mentioned two such cases (actually any small unit army that has a half way decent to hit needed breakthrough assault)

I'll call my other frustration - 'Give it Away' where BF gave away specific country special rules (mainly the British and the Soviets were made widely given) such as (and I'm reading V1 rules as I think they were given away in V2..maybe not) 8 Gun Batteries, Murder, Stonk, and then the Soviets while keeping the Kommisar had QoQ basically obseleted in an era (LW), and I believe Tankos were given to all countries...and then the GoW rules were given all out. If you look at the British, American, German, and Soviet Armies based on what they are given on 'non-hindering' special rules (I feel H&C is a hindering rule, even the new and improved) Here's what you got

Brits - British Bulldog, Carry on Sergeant, Semi-Indirect, and I guess Tip and Run
Germans - Mission Tactics, Kampfgruppe, Storm Trooper, Schurzen, Tiger Ace (again, I'm looking on the internet and I'm looking at rules basically just given to that country), Rocket Battery as well
US - Automatic Rifles, Excellent Communications, Stabilizers, Tank Destroyers, ToT, Truscott Trot, and Under Command (add in the now shared rules and yea...I want to play American with the largest Arty park ever)
Soviets - Kommisar, QoQ, (I think Roll up the Big Guns stayed)

I used to love playing Soviets, but if they only get big platoons is that a 'super special rule'? I dunno...I just feel like some flavor was lost by merging of the unique abilities, and I think some game balance changed.
