This is the second attempt i've had at making an Arab tech tree. I've remade the tree and expanded it significantly, hence the new post. Before we go any further, I should explain that this tree reflects historical interest, and is not a real suggestion for a new tree. It is more of a "what-if" for a bit of fun. I've included every Arab nation that I need to, including Kuwait, Lebanon, Egypt, Iraq, Syria, UAE, Jordan, Morocco, Algeria, and Qatar. I'm not a massive WoT player, but i've had advice on what tanks should go where. Given that we're here for some fun and what-if, i've also added tier XIs.
So, to begin.
Tier 1 is the Disston Tractor Tank. 37mm gun, based on a Caterpillar tractor chassis. Made in the US in the early 1930s as a joint business venture by Caterpillar Company, Disston Steels, and Otto Kafka Limited. Five were sold to Afghanistan in the mid-1930s. Never used in combat. Unfortunately, Afghanistan is not an Arab nation per se, but there was a fairly high profile attempt to sell some to Kuwait. It came to nothing, but it was high profile enough to attract the attention of the British intelligence services. See article - http://www.tanks-enc...n-tractor-tank/
Alternatively, the Renault FT could be used.
Tier II, unfortunately somewhat of a repeat of vehicles already in the game.
II #1Renault R35, as used by Syria and Lebanon isn't a total rehash - they were known to be fitted with a 2 pounder gun in the 1950s - https://milinme.word...past-equipment/
II #2 Light Mk. VI C was a gift tank a while ago, but Egypt used some Light Mk. VI in 1948. One is currently at Yad La Shiryon Museum in Israel. https://upload.wikim...IB-latrun-2.jpg
(Starting with the two medium lines)
III #1 M 13/40. Italian made, but Egypt used some in the 1948 war. Some had 2 pounders, though, so it would be a bit different to one in an Italian tree. http://ftr.wot-news....ba-israel-1948/
III #2 Egypt used some M22 Locusts in 1948 - http://www.network54...ocust from 1948
IV #1 rehashed Matilda, as used by Egypt in 1948. http://ftr.wot-news....ba-israel-1948/
IV #2 is a simple Panzer IV F2 probably bought from France or Czechoslovaka in the early 50s. Also sold to the PLO in 1977 - http://i.imgur.com/WPPUZfe.png
V #1 is the M4A4 Sherman. Basically every Arab nation used some version of the Sherman, it's wholly unimportant which model is used here, as long as it's not a tier VI candidate. Egypt used M4A4s for the FL-10 turret upgrade.
V #2 is the Panzer IV H/J. (Syrian upgraded H/Js with a DShK) Seen around 1956. http://i199.photobuc...Kpfw4H-1956.jpg
VI #1 is the Sherman FL-10. This is an M4A4 Sherman given the FL-10 turret. Done by Egypt. One now stands in Yad La Shiryon - https://upload.wikim...13-latrun-2.jpg
VI #2is the T-34/85. Basically a reskin or rehash of the standard T-34/85. I guess you could switch up a few stats here and there to make it a little different. Most Arab nations worth their salt used these. Syria fitted theirs with DShKs - http://www.armorama....d=215457&page=1
VII #1 Egypt had Centurion Mk 1s. Not too OP at tier VII with the 20 pounder. - http://www.com-centr...=asc&highlight=
VII #2 is an Israeli M-50 or M-51 used by the South Lebanon Army, which was heavily supported by Israel - http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v214/dan_pub/TsadalM50AMX-13Marj-ayoun1979-02.jpg
VIII #1 is the M47 Patton, as used by Jordan in the Six Day War, 1967 - http://edokunscalemodelingpage.blogspot.co.uk/2014/01/m-47-patton-in-jordanian-army-1967-six.html
VIII #2 VIII is the T-54 as used by Syria or Tiran-4, as used by by the South Lebanon Army, supplied by Israel. http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/commons/8/86/T-54-.jpg
IX has three options.
IX #1 - Tariq. Jordanian modification of a Centurion (which was already given the 105mm gun) to fit an engine from an M60A1 and a few other bits and pieces. A bit op at tier VIII? Maybe reduce aim time, load time, etc? http://tanknutdave.c...ian-tariq-tank/
IX #2 - Egypt's "T-55E" (almost certainly an unofficial designation). Essentially a refurbished T-55 There are, apparently, a few versions of this. The T-55E Mk II has a M68 105mm gun. http://www.panzernet...hp?topic=4274.0 Uncertain of the accuracy of this, but something to look into.
IX #3 - T-55QM. This is, reportedly, an Iraqi T-55 fitted with a new 105mm gun (could be an M68, could be an L/7). This seems quite similar to the T-55E, on that basis, but the T-55E had other reported upgrades. I'm unconvinced as to whether the T-55QM is real, so a regular T-55 or Tiran-5 (which was used by the SLA) could be thrown in.
X is where it gets really interesting.
X #1 is the M48A1 of Jordan or the M48A5 Patton of Lebanon. Either is a good choice. The A1 has a weaker gun than the tier IX it comes from, but the A5 is better than the A3 in game currently. Some fiddling with "soft statistics" could fix this? http://ic.pics.livejournal.com/bmpd/38024980/1973928/1973928_original.jpg http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-TjjhpwKyti0/U6mcUfD12WI/AAAAAAAACxU/F34zG48mV-8/s1600/M48+Jordanian.jpg
X #2 is Tier X is the Prototype Ramses II. Indeed, a little out of the era of the game, but not all that sophisticated. Even the standard production vehicle was a bit... Underwhelming. http://www.tanks-enc...t/Ramses-II.php
X #3 is the RO-115 Mk. I of Egypt. A deep modernization of the T-62. New British diesel engine, some had the 105mm L/7 gun (others didn't), and some other less interesting upgrades. Perhaps better at tier 11? It's an option.http://defence.pk/threads/egypts-other-revolution-modernizing-the-military-industrial-complex.199397/
X #4 is the Type 69-II as used by Iraq. This is quite a standard vehicle. http://www.tanks-encyclopedia.com/coldwar/China/Type-69.php http://www.tanks-encyclopedia.com/coldwar/China/photos/Bovington_Type69II_Iraqi_Flickr.jpg
X #5 is the Iraqi T-55 Enigma. Essentially a T-55 with somewhat crude but effective composite armor blocks added. I have been informed that composite armor is not allowed in WoT, but this is for fun only, and is historically accurate, so please don't rage at me for including it. See this article here - http://www.tanks-encyclopedia.com/modern/Iraq/t-55-enigma/
X #6 is the Iraqi Asad Babil tank. It was assembled with crudely made parts whilst Iraq was under hefty sanctions 1989-1990. It was, essentially, a downgrade of the Saddam MBT, which was a crudely built, locally assembled version of the T-72M1, which was a very cheap and technologically primitive export version of the T-72. I understand that the 125mm gun might be too strong for WoT, but the Asad Babil would have, realistically, very little armor, and maybe very little hitpoints? http://www.tanks-encyclopedia.com/modern/Iraq/Asad-Babil.php
I'll come to the tier XIs at the end.
SPG line:
At tier III is the Lorraine 37l w/ 75mm 1916. This was a Lebanese SPG - https://milinme.files.wordpress.com/2014/12/tegp_3106.jpg
At tier IV is the 10.5cm Lorraine / Sdkfz 135. This was a monument in Iraq near a munitions factory in Basra. http://www.tanks-enc...SdKfz-135-1.php Maybe it's a tier too high? Just change the damage or something?
Tier V is the Hummel. Syria operated at least one Hummel. http://i.imgur.com/34tBf3K.jpg Sorry, just a rehash of the German version.
Tier VI is the T-34/100 and T-34/122 of Egypt. A T-34 turret was extended to take the 100mm [edited]-3 and the 122mm D-30. This would make a really cool and interesting chassis. Fairly (but not incredibly) mobile, nice fast firing gun, high shell velocity, but a low arc. http://www.primeport...t-34_122_egypt/
http://www.sleipnirs..._t-34-100_2.jpg
Notice the different barrels.
Tier VII is the T-34/122 Syrian Edition! This one is a reversed hull, removed turret, and a 122mm D-30 gun added on. Quite well-known. https://upload.wikim...ey-haosef-4.jpg
Tier VIII is where I might accidentally trigger some people. Originally, when I didn't include tier XI, the two tier XIs that are on the tree now, were at X. I've only added these new VIIIs in to bump everything following them up a tier, so I can have XIs. Regardless:
The ISU-152 and the IS-3M were both used by Egypt in the Six Day War (1967) (Iraq also had ISU-152s), and were used in an indirect fire role, hence why they could be considered SPGs. It sure would be interesting to see an AMX 13 hunting SPGs come across an IS-3M as an SPG! http://2.bp.blogspot.com/--N-cA4KgBIg/VHGrNWkKatI/AAAAAAAADKA/AyzJ2g8xFsA/s1600/4.jpg http://i.imgur.com/Rar2ufH.jpg
Tier IX #1 is the Egyptian version of the T-55/122. Essentially, a D-30 gun fitted into a superstructure on a T-55. http://i.imgur.com/Rar2ufH.jpg
Tier IX #2 is the other T-55/122 from Lebanon, probably made by or for the South Lebanon Army - http://4put.ru/pictures/max/471/1448602.jpg
Tier X #1 is the 2S3, a Soviet SPG sold to Syria, still used today. https://milinme.files.wordpress.com/2013/09/syatst-002.jpg
Tier X #2 is the T-55/130. An Iraqi or MEK conversion from, I believe the late Iran-Iraq War. Now lies in a tank graveyard in Diyala, Iraq. Basically a T-55 with a modified 130mm Type 59-1 field gun in a crude super structure. See article - http://www.tanks-enc...raq/T-55-130SPG
Light line:
IV - Valentine used by Egypt in the Suez Crisis. Possibly without guns, though - http://balagan.info/...rab-israeli-war
V - AMX Chaffee used by Algeria. The French used them in Algeria, and I think gave the rest to Algeria upon independence? Something like that, anyway. Early model AMX 13s had the Chaffee turret. Looks a bit like this - https://farm6.staticflickr.com/5609/15157291403_4446323700_b.jpg
VI - is the ASU-57. A Soviet airborne tank that was sold to Egypt. http://www.internetmodeler.com/2001/may/armor/armor_isu07.JPG
VII #1 is the M41 Bulldog, as used by Lebanon. I noticed i'd written "Saudi Arabia" in the image. My bad. https://milinme.files.wordpress.com/2014/12/tegp_3128.jpg
VII #2 - AMX 13. 75mm, 90mm, and 105mm reportedly in service with Lebanon. https://milinme.word...gory/staghound/https://milinme.word...for-the-amx-13/
VIII #1 - Regular PT-76. Iraq had plenty of these.
VIII #2 - FV101 Scorpion. British tank in service with Jordan and UAE. http://www.tanks-enc...is_Scorpion.php
IX #1 - OT-62 Cascavel. Sometimes, wrongly, called the BTR-50 Cascavel, this tank was an unknown Iraqi conversion circa late 80s. It's a Czech made OT-62 (very similar to the BTR-50, to be fair, but the doors AND front of the hull are a giveaway) with an EE-9 Cascavel turret. http://i14.photobucket.com/albums/a347/ravenwing1/convertedIraqitank.jpg
IX #2- SK 105 Kurassier in Moroccan service - https://s-media-cach...8b30088245b.jpghttp://www.tanks-enc...5_Kurassier.php
X #1 - TR-77-580. Reportedly sold to Egypt and Iraq. http://www.tanks-encyclopedia.com/coldwar/Romania/TR-77-580.php
X #2- Vickers MBT Mk. 1. Private development designed for export. 70 delivered to Kuwait in the early 70s. http://weaponsystems...5 - Vickers MBT
TD line:
Just an experiment to see how far the line would go.
IV - Egyptian Archer. https://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/commons/1/1e/Abandoned_Egyptian_Archer.jpg
V #1 - StuG III Ausf G. Saukopf, sold to Syria, many of which were lost in the 1967 Six Day War https://wwiiafterwwii.files.wordpress.com/2016/09/stugunobserver.jpg?w=809
V #2- Iraqi M36B1 http://www.usmilitar...attach_id=58034
VI #1 - Jagdpanzer IV Refurb. Another German tank sold to Syria. http://forum.ioh.pl/graficzki/panzer_i0044.jpg
VI #2 - SU-100M. Used by Egypt. http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-RY_ld7VCuns/UtBb9OBYpOI/AAAAAAAAAq0/86pp3hjNKiM/s1600/6d46d349491ae3d8_large.jpg
VII - PT-76 "Makeshift". a very mysterious tank, of which, only one photo has surfaced. It appears to be, from the very poor photo, a PT-76 with a boxy, improvised turret, and an unknown gun. Some have suggested that it is a 57mm AA gun, some, a 20 pdr, others a 100mm field gun, or an 85mm D-48. It is simply too hard to tell without a closer inspection. If it uses a 57mm AA gun, the tier VI is fine, if it uses a 100mm gun, then it can be swapped for the regular PT-76 at tier VII. Seems quite likely, given Saddam's love for SPGs, that it had a 100mm gun. Judge for yourself. It could even be moved to the SPG line, to be frank. http://i1277.photobu...zps5dfc3202.jpg
VIII - Jordanian Charioteer. http://www.tanks-encyclopedia.com/coldwar/UK/Charioteer/photos/Jordanian_Charioteer-B1.jpg
This is as far as I got with TDs.
Heavies?
Tier X is the M60 Phoenix, an upgrade of the M60A3. Possibly too strong for even X? I don't really know. It could branch off from the first medium line, perhaps? http://www.military-today.com/tanks/m60_phoenix.htm
Strictly speaking, the IS-3M could be an VIII, but nevermind.
The tier 11s are fairly exciting vehicles.
"Medium" line XIs:
#1 - Chieftain, as used by Jordan, Oman, and Kuwait. http://www.warrelics.eu/forum/attachments/usa-great-britain-armour-artillery-vehicles/410469d1350314738-tank-grave-yard-iraq-dscf0019.jpg
#2 - Ramses II (full production model) http://www.tanks-encyclopedia.com/modern/Egypt/Ramses-II.php
#3 - RO-120 Mk III. Possibly too powerful for even XI? Modernization of the T-62 circa 2004. It had the locally-built 120 mm FSUE M-393 tank gun, new MTU engine, and lots of new armor, including ERA.
#4 - Type 69-II w/ 125mm. This is the supposed "T-55QM2", which shows that it was misidentified. Unveiled at the Baghdad Arms Fair in 1989, it was just a prototype, but spread rumors of lots of T-55s and similar vehicles being upgraded like this. None were seen in the First Gulf War. http://i100.photobucket.com/albums/m34/ComradeAbdullah/t72z_007.jpg
#5 - Type 69-II Enigma. Also unveiled at the 1989 Baghdad Arms Fair. It is essentially a forerunner of the T-55 Enigma, but somewhat better made (or, at least, better looking in terms of wiring and smoke launcher mountings), and based on a Type 69-II. No others were known to be built. https://postimg.org/image/j5ywl4he5/
#6 - The export model T-72, the T-72M1. It was a very technologically primitive export version. The primitiveness, however, made it affordable to Iraq. See this article on all types of Iraqi T-72s: http://www.tanks-encyclopedia.com/modern/Iraq/Asad-Babil.php
SPGs
These were originally tier Xs, but i've bumped them up for the sake of fun.
X #1 - GCT 155. France sold 85 to Iraq during the Iran-Iraq War. By the 2003 invasion, they were out of use, probably due to a lack of spare parts. Soldiers found them in graveyards. http://i.imgur.com/PqemHa4.jpg
X #2 M1978 Koksan? A few were sold to Iran during the Iran-Iraq War, and then captured by Iraq. One was found by the US army after the 2003 invasion, see this article - http://www.tanks-enc...oksan-M1978.php
Lights
Unsure of any XI light tank candidates, so i've carried on with "mediums".
XI #1 is the OF-40. An Italian tank designed for export. It was bought by Saudi Arabia. It is, essentially, a cheap export Leopard. It could even be an X candidate?
XI #2 is the AMX 30/30B. I know that this is already at X, so it could even be an X candidate. Used by Qatar in the First Gulf War. http://i.imgur.com/scQCE2q.jpg
So, there you have it! Like I say, this is just a what if, and not a serious proposal. I've just tried to use historical accuracy to create a likely Arab tree, if it were, for some reason, to be implemented. If WoT have repeatedly said that they won't include an Israeli tree (which, to be fair, has far fewer candidates, and isn't nearly as coherent), then I don't think we'll need to worry about seeing a T-55 Enigma, or a T-55/130 rolling around.
