Best In Show: Our editor’s pick for the best bike on the floor of NAHBS 2014 goes to this Cykelmageren city bike. When asked what the name of this bike is, designer Rasmus Gjesing pointed to the three bikes in his booth and said, “Bike One, Bike Two, and Bike Three.” Photo: Brad Kaminski | Velonews.com

Best Mountain Bike: The Breadwinner Bad Otis is different, as it’s a hardtail all-mountain bike, but its beautiful welds and 160mm RockShox Pike fork makes us want to disappear in the high country for a weekend. Photo: Brad Kaminski | Velonews.com

Best Cyclocross Bike: The Independent Fabrication Carbon Cross Jester has been around since 2010, though it's not a model you'll find listed in Indy Fab's lineup and it's rarely marketed by them. The owner of this Cross Jester, Dylan McNicholas, must have asked very nicely for this one to be produced. Photo: Logan VonBokel | VeloNews.com

The carbon crown lugs could also be Best Lugs of NAHBS, but we don’t want the Independent Fabrication crew from New England getting too full of themselves. Photo: Logan VonBokel | VeloNews.com

Best Tandem: Calfee has been doing tandems better than anyone for years, but they’ve one-upped themselves with the Tetra Convertible Tandem, which can be decoupled for travel and for turning into a single bike for solo adventures. Photo: Brad Kaminski | Velonews.com

Most Italian Bike: In North Carolina it doesn’t get any more Italian than this Palladio. Photo: Brad Kaminski | Velonews.com

Best Road Bike: When it comes to choosing a Best Road Bike, we look for something we would want to race day-in and day-out. The Holland Cycles HC is the first full carbon bike offered by San Diego builder Bill Holland. The Holland HC, which stands for hors categorie as well as Holland Cycles, was co-developed with Mike Lopez, formerly of Reynolds and Serotta. Photo: Brad Kaminski | Velonews.com

If you want an HC, you better get in line. Forty-two Signature frames and forks will be sold first, to celebrate Bill Holland’s 42 years of frame building. Twenty-one of those frames pre-sold for $7,700 each, before the buyers even saw a prototype. The HC frame will sell for $6,400, once the remaining 21 Signature frames are spoken for. Even if you signed on the dotted line for a Signature frame today, you wouldn’t be taking delivery until 2015. Photo: Brad Kaminski | Velonews.com

Best Track Bike: 611 Bicycle Co. built this bike for Chris King employee Chris Kessler. As with most bikes on the show floor in Charlotte, the details make this bike what it is — beautiful. From the one-off stem and seatmast topper to the paint executed by Airglow Painting, there’s plenty to look at on this fixed gear. The judges at NAHBS agree, and it won their award for Best Track Bike, too. Photo: Brad Kaminski | Velonews.com

Most Likely to Make You Stare: Sunrise Cycles of Tokya, Japan built this fixed gear, and it took us some time to take it in. Photos cannot do this bike’s fabrication justice. The frame was built by Yu Takai, and the graphics are by Takahiro Hagiyama. Hagiyama, created the graphics on paper and then cut them out, pasted them to the red frame, and clear coated over them. Best Reinvention of Frame Lugs: The Sunrise Cycles fixed gear used amazingly ornate lugs. This one pulled double-duty as the housing for the taillight. The headlight was integrated into an equally ornate piece on the handlebar. Photo: Brad Kaminski | Velonews.com

Best Accessory for North Carolina: Kish Fabrications is based just a couple of hours outside of Charlotte, an area where moonshine in mason jars is commonplace. Kish Fabrications was selling titanium mason jar bottle cages paired with a custom Kish mason jar. A fitting accessory to Kish’s titanium bikes. Photo: Logan VonBokel | VeloNews.com

Best Color: Ira Ryan’s Breadwinner Cycle B-Road sported a sharp orange and sky blue combination. Ryan designed the B-Road based on his experience winning the Trans Iowa. “I hate the term gravel grinder. This is my dirt bike,” Ryan said. Ryan also opted for 11-speed downtube shifters that he fabricated together himself. “You don’t get that loud clicking engagement sound from Di2 and its electronic solenoids,” he said.
