Jamis forms cyclocross team
Jamis Bicycles has announced it will fund a professional cyclocross squad starting this upcoming season.
The team joins the two other outfits in the Jamis lineup, the Jamis-Hagens Berman road squad and the Jamis Factory Racing mountain bike team. Five riders will make up the new team.
Tyler Wren, Ben Jaques-Maynes, Carson Miller, and Philip Mooney will switch to the squad from the company’s road team, while another rider — 18-year-old Sam Cerruti — will join them. Jaques-Maynes and Mooney are based in northern California and will mentor Cerruti.
Further, Jamis will support two other riders during this upcoming cyclocross season: Jessica Cutler, who will ride a Jamis while racing for BIKESport, and Thomas Turner, the reigning Master’s 30-34 world cyclocross champion. Turner currently rides for Jamis’ mountain bike squad.
“Our athletes love to extend their racing seasons, and what better way to do it than to have them compete in the cyclocross events across the USA!” Jamis Bicycles president Carine Joannou said. “’Cross is a fast growing segment of the sport that Jamis really enjoys supporting.”

USA Cycling Pro CX calendar announced
The 2013-14 USA Cycling Pro Cyclocross Calendar (Pro CX) kicks off September 7 in Breiningsville, Pa. at the Nittany Lion Cross race and concludes January 5.
There are 45 dates on the schedule and the top 20 riders in the men’s and women’s overall series standings will each split a $40,000 prize purse. There is at least one event in 19 states across the U.S., from Pennsylvania to Washington and Vermont to Nevada and a number of locations in between.
The top 15 finishers in the elite men, elite women, and junior men’s categories at each race accumulate points. Six races are ranked by the UCI as C1, events in which points available to riders are tripled. There are also 12 events that will hold separate races for junior men.
Jeremy Powers (Rapha-Focus), Helen Wyman (Kona Factory Racing), and Logan Owen (Redline) won the men’s, women’s, and junior men’s titles last season.

Juarez, Gordon are USAC UET champs
David “Tinker” Juarez (Sho-Air-Cannondale) and Serena Gordon (All Access Racing) claimed overall victories in the men’s and women’s divisions of the USA Cycling Pro Mountain Bike Ultra-Endurance Tour (Pro UET) last weekend.
Both riders finished second at the third and final event in the series, the Galena Grinder Whit Henry Memorial in Galena Lodge, Idaho.
Juarez also won the 2012 title and finished with 140 points, significantly more than second-place riders Joshua Berry (Vélo Club La Pomme Marseille) and Alex Grant (Sho-Air), who each earned 60. Ryan Clark (Audi-Felt) was fourth with 55 points while two riders — Kip Biese (KJ Bike Coaching) and Chris Jackson — tied for fifth with 40.
The women’s race for first overall was closer, with Gordon piling up 110 points to edge Jessica Cerra (Focus Bikes), who had 100. Jana Repulski (Broken Spoke Cycling) and Monique “Pua” Mata (Sho-Air) tied for third with 60 points. Jennifer Tobin (Wild Rockies, Inc.) netted 30 to finish fifth.
