What I will write here is my personal experience. I will try to make this as short as I can. So few years ago I created my DA account. It was neat, I loved that site! I was slowly building my watchers base. When I hit 300+ feedback was more recent and my account was growing. Suddenly everything stopped. Like literally. My activity dropped just like that. I have no clue if it was because DA updates or it was just a temporary lack of traffic. Anyway I decided to make another account because I'm a peasant and couldn't afford premium (yes, I know you could buy it with points, but it was taking forever), but I wanted to change my username (and my ex friend was bullying/stalking me there).
New account, new life. Unfortunately nothing really changed and developing my fanbase was slow maybe even too slow (I send a message to my previous watchers, but at the end it appeared half of them are dead). I was as much active as I could, commenting, uploading my stuff to groups, no feedback what so ever... I gave up and then came back after half a year. Boy, what happened? I see people complain about CORE, the lack of communication between staff and users, this weird journal, you can't report stolen deviations and a bunch of people reporting art thieves in the comments (not many accounts like that were taken down btw). And this one disturbing thing: I came across some people that claim, they stopped receiving feedback like me or even that CORE helps you get featured. In fact browsing DA front page at least 95% of featured deviations have CORE. But let's leave it, it's nothing sure, there's no evidences either.
I noticed one thing about "What's hot" section. I see there the same artists over and over again. I mean it's a standart that Sakimichan will get there. She's pretty famous already, shouldn't you promote other awesome artists? Or I see pony creator uploaded 4 years ago, stuck in the front page for months... I'm not saying they are featuring bad artists, all of them are talented, but already popular and have a lot of traffic. I know this section works like that, the more traffic you get the bigger chance you will get featured, but shouldn't it be calculated weekly? or monthly? So any artist have the chance? I know, there's daily section, new section and other, but the scrolling... Seriously there's so many users and it's so hard to notice anyone when you have option to scroll without end. I was scrolling and scrolling and scrolling and barely got to older deviations from, let's say, an hour ago.
Edit: Apparently I missed the undiscovered section, I think it's working better? I don't know, there's so many sections on DA x__x
To be honest I don't know if some of these is because the site changed or maybe there's too many users.
So what's your opinion? Have you experienced something similar? Maybe you still have good impression of DA?
