There are two parts to wrestling and being able to continue wrestling at a high level in college.

Wrestling
Academics

I know, I know, you hear this all the time - but no one ever breaks it down to the nitty gritty, so here goes.

In order to wrestle in college a wrestler needs to register with the NCAA Clearinghouse and obtain a Clearinghouse number.

In order to get through the Clearinghouse a wrestler will need to obtain a certain level of academic success.

Division l uses a sliding scale between SAT/ACT Test scores and grade point average in 16 Core Courses in High School.

The 16 Core Courses are comprised of:

4 Years of English
3 Years of Math (Algebra 1 or Higher)
2 Years of Natural/Physical Science
1 Additional Year of Math/Science
2 Years of Social Science
4 Years from any area of above or Language

Division II
Minimum SAT of 820 (Math and English) or ACT sum of 68

Division I Core Courses
How do you know what a core course is?

Below is a link to every schools NCAA Eligible Core Courses

High School Core Courses

How Do I determine my GPA in those classes?

90-100 = 4.0
80-90   = 3.0
70-80   = 2.0
65-69   = 1.0

Nowstart taking the core classes and start plugging them into this worksheet

Core Course Evaluation Worksheet

Now this is the part that can get frustrating and needs attention.
You must realize that a grade of an 89 carries the same grade value as a grade of an 80 (3.0).  If you turn that 89 into a 90 then it would carry a grade value of a 4.0 - 1 point makes all the difference.  Now this won't make a major impact if you have 1 69/79/89, but if you are a chronic 69/79/89 student you are cheating yourself.  Get the extra point in class it will make all the difference.

SLIDING SCALE

Division 1 uses a sliding scale  to determine eligibility

Now take your GPA and use the following NCAA SLIDING SCALE Chart to see what the minimum SAT/ACT score you will need.

Notes -
The Minimum GPA for eligibility is a 2.0 (70-79 Avg in the 16 core classes) which means the minimum SAT needed is a 1010.

I would recommend for every wrestler who is planning on wrestling in college to put pencil to paper and see where he stands this week while you can still add/drop classes to help you in this process.
