Robert W Allen

Robert W. Allen passed away in Scottsdale, AZ on Friday, December 26, 2014, of pancreatic cancer. He was 64. A lifelong golfer, Bob never forgot his Kansas roots, particularly his love for the Jayhawks and the Chiefs. He was born on October 24, 1950, in Anderson, South Carolina to the Reverend M.C. and Eleanor Allen. He moved with his family to Lawrence, KS. He graduated from Lawrence High School, Kansas University, and earned an advanced degree from the Wisconsin School of Banking. Bob spent most of his career at the Federal Reserve System as a senior executive. After leaving the Fed, Bob's entrepreneurial drive led him to start two financial services companies in Lawrence. In 2013, Bob and his wife Teresa moved to Scottsdale, AZ. He will be remembered for his quick wit, keen sense of humor and his high ethical standards. He is preceded in death by his parents and sister Louise Allen Hough. Bob is survived by his wife, Teresa, stepson Dylan Standish, wife Amy and granddaughter Zadie of New York, NY, stepdaughter Caitlin Standish of Portland, OR, brother Burt Allen and wife Chris of Natchitochis, LA, sister Marian Allen of Orland, ME, and many nieces and nephews. Bob is deeply missed by his family and many close friends. A memorial service celebrating his life will be held in Lawrence, Kansas in March.

Robert Owen Brokaw

Our Heavenly Father enfolded Bob in His loving arms and called him home on December 25, 2014.

Excellent care had been provided at Circle of Life Hospice Home at Legacy Village in Bentonville, AR. He was born on January 9, 1928, in Coffeyville, KS, the fifth child of Gay H. Brokaw and Lois W. (Webber) Brokaw. His marriage to Betty Jane Sitz took place on August 27, 1950, at St. Paul's Lutheran Church in Coffeyville, Kansas. During their marriage, they lived in Coffeyville and Lawrence, KS, LeMars and Sioux City, IA, Oklahoma City, OK, Maple Grove, MN, Bella Vista, AR, and then Pea Ridge, AR.

He served in the United States Navy during WWII, and later earned a degree in Business Administration at the University of Kansas in 1957. For the major part of his career, Bob worked in the field of insurance for credit unions, retiring in 1990 as District Vice President for CUNA Mutual Insurance Society. He was a member of Holy Trinity Lutheran Church in Rogers, AR. Survivors include his wife of the home, his son, Erik J. Brokaw, of Blue Springs, MO, his daughter, Cari M. Brokaw of Pea Ridge, AR, a granddaughter, Heather M. Haub of Shawnee, KS, and a grandson, Jonathan M. Brokaw of Kansas City, MO. Along with his children and grandchildren, very special people in his life were Wanda S. Brokaw, his daughter-in-law, and her children, Johnny Whipple and Laura Whipple. William C. Brokaw, his brother of Belle Isle, FL, survives him, along with nephews and nieces. They are Thomas Brokaw, Kathy Colbert, Ronette Warren, Cheri Tyler, Michael Sweetland, Debbie Hermes, and Greg Brokaw. Along with his parents, two brothers, Gay E. Brokaw and Theodore Brokaw, and two sisters, Betty Gay Sweetland, and Marie P. Brokaw, predeceased him.

At his specific request, there will be no funeral or memorial service. However, when his ashes are placed in the family plot in Restlawn Cemetery in Coffeyville, Kansas, at a later date, there will be a graveside service. Memorial donations may be made to Circle of Life Hospice Home at Legacy

Keith Burwell

Keith Burwell, 83, Tonganoxie, KS, passed away Saturday January 3, 2015 at the Tonganoxie Nursing Center.

Funeral service will be 11 am Wednesday January 7, 2015 at Cornerstone Family Worship, Tonganoxie. The family will receive friends for 1 hour before the service time. Burial will follow in Hubbel Hill Cemetery, Tonganoxie.

Keith was born June 28, 1931 in Dodge City, KS, the son of Ira and Nellie (Croft) Burwell. He was a graduate of Dodge City Junior College and worked as an Engineer for the State of Kansas. He was united in marriage in Clayton, NM, July 28, 1951 to Jerry Pettigrew. She survives of the home. Other survivors include; four daughters, Anita Rolynn (Cliff) Welch, Topeka, KS; Shana Joann (Jim) Widau, Lee's Summit, MO, Diana Sue Bundy, Basehor, KS, Fawn Renee Turner, Topeka, KS; 6 grandchildren; and 5 great-grandchildren. In lieu of flowers the family suggests memorials to Cornerstone Family Worship C/O Quisenberry Funeral Home.

Leon Garcia, Jr.

A memorial service for Leon Garcia Jr., 58, of Lawrence will be held on Thursday, January 8, 2015 at 2 p.m. at Warren-McElwain Mortuary in Lawrence. Private family inurnment will be held following the service. He passed away January 4, 2015, at Midland Care Hospice House, Topeka, KS.

He was born August 15, 1956, in Lawrence, KS, to Leon Garcia Sr. and Erminia Garcia.

Leon worked at the University of Kansas as a maintenance supervisor.

He enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren, golfing with his cousin Tom Garcia III, and playing music in different bands through the years where they would travel the U.S. and play on cruise ships.

Leon is preceded in death by; his parents, step-father, Ralph Gauna, and two nephews, Jeff L. and Brian M. Garcia.

Leon is survived by: son; Michael (Lana) Garcia and their children, Addeline and Lawson, daughter; Malena (Mathius) Wopsock, and their children, Seth, Maizee, Kat-Lee and Redstone, all of Lawrence, sisters; Margaret (Sonny) Garcia, Lawrence, Lorie Henandez, Topeka, Irene Garcia of the home, Nancy (Lewis) Lawson, Topeka, Felicia (Michael) Miller, Overland Park, numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Midland Care Hospice House, 200 SW Fraizer Circle, Topeka, KS 66606, and may be sent in care of the mortuary.

Marjorie Augusta Wegeng Gronniger

Marjorie Augusta Wegeng Gronniger died January 3, 2015 at Lawrence, KS.

She was born April 5, 1919 in Norborne, MO to William Augustine Wegeng and Mary Susan Hofmann Wegeng. She graduated from Norborne High School in 1937 and was married to John L. Gronniger, Jr. on August 26, 1946. To this union four children were born: Kay Madden (partner, Marcia Motsinger), Kansas City, MO; J.P. Gronniger, Eudora, KS; Martha Gronniger, Lawrence, KS; and Maureen Gronniger, Lawrence, KS. Marjorie was predeceased by her parents; a brother, Eldon Wegeng; and a sister, Rosemary Hockemeier. Other survivors include her sisters Elizabeth Backes (Carrollton, MO); Judith Goetting (Norborne, MO); Carol Ruegg (Kearney, MO); a sister-in-law, Vanda Wegeng (Richmond, MO); and a brother-in-law, Abbie Hockemeier (Richmond, MO). She is also survived by 26 nieces and nephews.

John and Marjorie farmed in Linwood, KS for 12 years before moving to Eudora in 1963. They ran John's 66 Service Station in Eudora for a number of years before John's passing in 1977. After her husband's death, Marjorie attended the University of Kansas graduating with distinction in 1983 with a journalism degree. She served as treasurer of the City of Eudora for 33 years but continued to write the minutes for the Eudora Planning Commission and Board of Appeals for another 7 years. She also served on the Eudora School Board from 1991 to 1995.

Marjorie loved Holy Family Catholic Church and volunteered to help there any chance she had. She was active in St. Theresa's Society, the Building Committee, the Pro-Life Committee, and she worked with Family Promise. She helped set up and serve every funeral dinner the parish had and attended Mass nearly every day.

She took a genuine interest in her community and in everyone around her. She loved to read, travel, garden, and write letters to the editor (usually on political topics!). She was incredibly involved in life, and she was still driving, canning, and writing friends until her last 2 months. She was our mom and we loved her.

A rosary and visitation will be held on January 7 at Warren-McElwain Mortuary-Eudora from 5-7:30 p.m. Mass of the Christian Burial will be at Holy Family Catholic Church on January 8 at 11 a.m. in Eudora.

Memorials may be given in her name to the Holy Family Church Building Fund and may be sent in care of Warren-McElwain Mortuary.

David Eldon Scott

Funeral services for David Eldon Scott, 74, Lawrence will be held at 11:00 a.m. Saturday, January 10, 2015 at Warren-McElwain Mortuary in Lawrence. Burial will follow at Memorial Park Cemetery. He passed away January 1, 2015 at his home.

He was born January 11, 1940 in Ottawa, KS to Harry Eldon and Wilma Adeline (Hogan) Scott.

He served his country in the United States Air Force.

He worked for the State of Kansas as a Disability Officer for almost 20 years before he retired.

Survivors include his children, Lucinda Cluchey, Lawrence, David Scott, California, Teresa Hutchins, Colorado, Robert Scott, Topeka, KS; eight grandchildren; seven great grandchildren; and two brothers, Blaine Scott, Kansas City, and Bruce Scott, Emporia.

The family will greet friends from 10-11 a.m. prior to the service on Saturday, January 10th at the mortuary.

Memorial contributions may be made in his name to a charity of donor's choice and may be sent in care of the mortuary.
