John Edward Flower

John Edward Flower, age 68 of Basehor, KS. and previously of St. Louis, MO, passed away on Tuesday, October 21, 2014 at the University of Kansas Medical Center surrounded by his family. A Celebration of John's life was held 1pm on Saturday, Oct. 25th at the Basehor United Methodist Church. The family received friends at the church from 11:30am to 1pm prior to the service.

John was born on September 8, 1946 in Kansas City, Kansas the youngest of two children born to Dale and Frankie (Perry) Flower. John was a graduate of Turner High School and Rockhurst University. He served in the U.S. Army during the Vietnam Era. John was an executive at Southwestern Bell Telephone (now AT&T) and retired in 1999 after a 33-year career. In 2008 John was elected as a Leavenworth County Commissioner and served through 2012. John was very active in local and county government, most recently serving on the Planning Board for the City of Basehor. John married Diana Marie Gammon on December 20, 1969 and they spent 40 wonderful years together. Diana preceded him in death on December 11, 2008. He was also preceded in death by his parents, father-in-law Thomas Gammon, and son-in-law William Ryan Torpey. He is survived by two children: Jason Flower (wife Diana) and Alexia Torpey; two grandchildren (Georgia Torpey and Cecily Flower); one sister, Jeanne A. Alexander; mother-in-law, Edna Gammon; brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Paul and Debra Cook; four nephews and one niece. John married Susan Ash Dudley on September 28, 2013 and expanded his family immediately with two stepchildren, Melissa Ash Glenski (husband Thomas) and Dr. Michael Ash (wife Danielle), as well as three step-grandchildren (Sarah Glenski, Isaac and Liam Ash). John was passionate about his faith, his family, and his many hobbies. He loved music, especially jazz, and had a music collection of over 1500 CDs. He was a patron of the American Jazz Museum in Kansas City and helped establish the Jazz at the Bistro program in St. Louis. He was an avid sportsman who enjoyed playing softball, sailing (especially with his best friend Larry Thompson), and riding his motorcycle. However, John's spirit shined the brightest in the company of his family, especially his grandchildren. When he wasn't at the grill or preparing meats in the smoker, he loved cooking with Sue and entertaining friends and family. The last ten years of John's life were made possible through organ donation – a gift for which he was immensely grateful. If desired, memorial contributions may be made to the Basehor United Methodist Church or to the charity of your choice , both in care of the Alden-Harrington Funeral Home.

Marvin C. Moore

Marvin C. "Pop" Moore, age 79, of Bonner Springs, KS. passed away on Tuesday Oct. 28, 2014 at his home. Private services will follow at a later date with burial in the Bonner Springs Cemetery. Memorial contributions can be made to the Bonner Springs Animal Rescue in care of the Alden-Harrington Funeral Home.

Marvin was born on January 19, 1935 in Hartville, Missouri. He was preceded in death by his son Marvin Eugene Moore. Survivors include his wife of 58 years, Dorothy "DJ" Moore of the home, daughter Maricia Kay Stephens of Ohio; five grandchildren Marvin Eugene Moore II, Michael Eugene Moore, Tyler Scott Moore, Kimberly Tadlock and Megan Kirby; two great-grandchildren Dylan Michael Moore and Charleigh Roberts.

Mavis Marlene Routh

Mavis Marlene Routh, age 78, of Baldwin City, Kansas, passed away October 27, 2014, at Pioneer Ridge Nursing Facility in Lawrence, KS. Mavis was born on August 7, 1936, in Springview, Nebraska, the daughter of Clarence Elsworth Steward and Velma Carrie (Miller) Steward.

Mavis graduated from Humansville High School with the class of 1954 in Humansville, Missouri.

Mavis Moved to Baldwin City in August of 1954. She had a 20 year career in the Baker University admissions office. She was a Cub Scout Den Leader for 2 years, a Girl Scout leader for 16 years and a league bowler for 40 years. Mavis enjoyed dancing and was a "Master" cinnamon roll maker.

Mavis was united in marriage with Billy Joe Routh August, 15, 1954 at the Christian Church in Humansville, MO. He survives of the home.

Mavis is also survived by; son Chris Routh and wife Jacquie of Topeka, KS, two daughters Cheryl Medlen of Lawrence, KS and Carol Grammer and Husband Mike of Eudora, KS; four brothers Richard Steward wife Sally of Grove Springs, MO, Robert Steward wife Lillian of Halfway, MO, Willard "Bill" Steward wife Linda of Stockton, MO, and Keith "Chuck" Steward wife Vernalee of Moscow, TN; eight grandchildren, Bill Medlen, Chris Medlen, Stacy Medlen, Rheanna Kaufman husband Andy, Brent Routh, Melissa Miller husband Drew, and Chelsea Grammer; step granddaughter Cassie Blackwell three great-grandchildren, Daylen Medlen, Payton Routh and Breydon Kaufman.

Kathryn M. Thacker

Kathryn Marie "Kathy" Thacker, 63, of Bonner Springs, Kansas passed away on Friday, October 24, 2014 at the Mary Greeley Medical Center in Ames, IA. Memorial Funeral Services will be at 4 PM Saturday, November 1, at the Bonner Springs United Methodist Church with committal of ashes to follow at a later date. Friends may call at the visitation from 3 to 4 PM, Saturday, Nov. 1 at the church. The family suggests Memorial Contributions to the Bonner Springs United Methodist Church or the American Cancer Society in care of the funeral home. Kathy was born on Oct. 4, 1951 in Le Mars, IA. She was raised in Iowa and lived there until she met and married Curt Thacker and they made their home in Oklahoma with their wonderful and beautiful blended family. She enjoyed being active in rainbow girls and in sports as a young girl and she continued to be a big fan of all sports throughout her life. She worked as an accountant and bookkeeper over the years for several companies but her focus was always on her family. She was a renowned cook and a faithful active participant in her church. She loved working with and supporting the Feed His Lambs mission project. She had a quiet and shy demeanor in public, but was outgoing at home and found humor in those around her especially while playing board games with her friends and family. Kathy is survived by her husband of 30 years Curt Thacker of the home. Two daughters Sherry Lucas-Taylor and her husband G.W. of Lenexa, KS and Jill Paltz of Bonner Springs, KS and two stepchildren Jay Thacker of Nashville, TN and Una Winterman and her husband Brian of Bloomington, IN. Six grandchildren Austin, Skyler, Stella, Kendra, Esther and Zane. One brother Bruce Rowen and his wife Fran of St. Cloud, MN and Kathy's younger twin sister Kris Reinert of Bonner Springs, KS as well as several nieces and nephews. All who knew her will miss her greatly.

Charles Nicholas "Charlie" Womack

Charles Nicholas "Charlie" Womack, 35, passed away October 28, 2014, after battling kidney cancer. Charlie was born in Kansas City, Missouri, July 19, 1979, and raised in Overland Park, Kansas. He graduated from Rockhurst High School and attended the University of Kansas. Charlie worked as facility manager at Sirius Computer Systems in Mission, Kansas, since 2008.

Charlie was an Eagle Scout, and a life long collector of baseball cards. He was an avid sports fan, notably of the Kansas Jayhawks and the Kansas City Royals. Charlie loved spending time with his wife and children, and especially enjoyed outings with his family.

Charlie is survived by his wife of eight years, Jennifer, and their children, twins Ethan and Brady, 2, and Ella, 8 months; father-in-law Jerry McNolty; parents James and Kathleen Womack; sister Catherine Womack and brother-in-law Cameron Knight; brother Andrew Womack and sister-in-law Diana O'Brien; sister Mary Womack and niece Kassidie Womack. Burial Services will be Saturday, November 1, at 10:00 am at Mount Calvary Cemetery, 1150 North 38th Street, in Kansas City, Kansas, followed by a Celebration in Charlie's honor from 11am to 1 pm at Sirius Computer Systems, Cloverleaf Office Park Building 1, 6811 Shawnee Mission Parkway, in Mission, Kansas.
