Don O. Loyd
Don O. Loyd, 85, of Hiawatha, died September 19, 2014, at Maple Heights Nursing Home in Hiawatha.
He married Patricia "Pat" Patton, August 20, 1955, at Topeka. She survives at home. Don enlisted in the Army in 1948. After serving in the Army Security Agency in the Philippines as a radio code operator, he was discharged in 1952 at the rank of corporal. In 1981, Don served as Potentate of the Abdallah Shrine in Kansas City, KS. He is also survived by two sons Shawn Patton Loyd (Robin) of Hiawatha, Brett Ashley Loyd (Maria) of Greenville, Indiana; a daughter Nancy Dawn Loyd-Leffingwell (Paul) of Lawrence; a sister Ruth Ross of Willis; 5 grandchildren; and 4 great-grandchildren.
A Celebration of Don's life is planned for 1 p.m. Tuesday, September 23, at the First United Methodist Church in Hiawatha. Onas B. Waltho
Private family services for Onas Burkhart Waltho, 91, Lawrence will be held at a late date. She passed away Saturday, September 20, 2014 at Pioneer Ridge Retirement Community.
Onas was born September 19, 1923 in Merino, Colorado the daughter of John F. and Alida R. (Cliffman) Burkhardt.
She worked for Hallmark Cards for 22 years and retired in 1985. She was a Past President and member of the Pilot Club and Past Commander of the Disabled Veterans Auxiliary.
She married Percy Waltho on July 7, 1945 in Buffalo, New York and he preceded her in death on December 29, 1997. She was also preceded in death by her son, Jack Waltho, two brothers and a sister.
Onas is survived by her son, Jeffrey Waltho and his wife, Diane of Lawrence; two grandchildren, Jonathan Waltho of Lawrence and Jenna Waltho of Las Vegas, NV; one sister, Jean Shaw of Jacksonville, FL.
Memorial contributions may be made in her name to the American Diabetes Association and may be sent in care of the mortuary.
