Mata Traders was created by three friends who fell in love with Indian culture; the people, markets and colorful textiles inspired them to create a company that made the country they landed in during an around-the-world adventure a part of their life stories. Mata Traders is a brand that is determined to end global poverty and inspire ethical companies and consumers to change the fashion industry and transform it into supporters of fair trade and sustainable clothing.

Mata means "Mother" in Hindi, and is a tribute to Shakti, the female creative power in all of us. Their goal is to create designs that celebrate a woman's originality and empower her to use her dollar for change. They merge vibrant style with fair trade practices to create a unique combination that sets them apart in fashion. They have set out to make 'fashion a better world' by having their products made by skilled artisans in India and Nepal, and providing a stable source of income for the families who work for them. The people at Mata Traders are passionate about honoring centuries-old textile and artisan traditions that are present in their handmade products, such as block printing and embroidery. By purchasing their products, customers are supporting and helping to keep the artistic traditions alive.
